How I chose...

The Bottom Line I'd recommend asking around, meeting a few vets and choosing the one you feel comfortable with.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that my cats are like children to me and they only get the very best in life, they get the best care, from myself and from the vet, they eat the best foods, always a great variety, they always have ice water, plenty of toys, constant brushing and grooming and my lap is always available to them. If one of them is sick, I'll stay home from work to be with them, and I constantly worry.

Choosing a vet was fairly easy for me, I grew up with pets and we always took them to the same animal hospital for their yearly shots and care. When I moved out and got married, my husband and I adopted 2 cats from a local shelter and started going to the same vet that my mom always brought our cats to while I was growing up.

When choosing a vet the first thing you should do is ask around, ask your friends and family that have pets, see where they take them, if possible the next time they're going, ask if you can go along for the company. The vet I go to is so compassionate, not only to the animal, but to the owner, its just as stressful to the owner to bring a pet to the vet as it is for the pet, which the pet can sense, if the owner is comfortable with the vet, it makes a big difference.

My vet is great and so is his assistant, I can sense how much they truly care about the animals and its more than just a job to them, its their life.

Another thing thats very important and helpful to me is knowing that my vet is simply a phone call away, I know I can call him with a question, or if I have an emergency, he can meet me at the office right away. My vets office also has evening hours, which is great for people who work full time, and they're also open Saturday mornings. Normally, you can get an appointment that day, even if its not an emergency. They'll never make you wait, because they know how important your pet is to you. They also have a vet on call 24 hours a day.

Thats how I chose my vet, mainly because I was already familiar with them, but if I hadn't been, I would have shopped around, gotten advice and then chosen the one who I felt could do the best job.
