The newer Xeon based servers use FB-DIMMs. The performance to cost ratio of these systems has been brought into question lately because of another issue: heat. Each dimm has been rated at 5W thermal output. 6Dimms x 5W = 30Watt of potential thermal energy, when coupled with 50xx generation chips, this can heat up a small server closet fast. If the server is using these style dimms, relate to us how hot the memory gets during normal operation.
