My Kids' Choices

Jun 08 '01

The Bottom Line I chose these movies because my kids seem to like them so well. I didn't choose them for my own personal enjoyment, although we always watch them together.

I am rating these movies from on how often my children have watched and enjoyed them.

1. PETE'S DRAGON A story about a young orphan boy that has a dragon. Trying to escape his foster parents, he comes upon a town where he gets into some mischief but is taken in by a lovely lighthouse keeper. This is a musical that my kids have watched over and over again.

2. DUMBO Disney's movie about an elephant that has large ears and is made fun of by the circus community. I think this is a wonderful movie because it has many hilarious parts to it but the kids learn compassion from it also.

3. THE WIZARD OF OZ A classic film that is so magical! The colors, the characters, the songs, and the little puns are what make it so wonderful. Each time you watch it you seem to see something new that you haven't seen before.

4. WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Who doesn't like chocolate and wouldn't love to visit a candy factory? Charlie wins a chance to see the inside of the factory and winds up owning the factory in the end. Another magical dreamy movie.

5. THE ARISTOCATS I think the children like this so much because of the cute kittens. The storyline also keeps them wondering what is going to happen next. A very cute movie!

6. PETER RABBIT One of the things that keeps the kids interested in this movie is that they want to see how Peter is going to get out of trouble after sneaking into MR. McGregor's garden. My children have loved this tale...the movie and the book. The color and characters are so beautifully illustrated.

7. HOME ALONE The mischief that this little boy gets himself into makes the whole family laugh. My kids especially like the second in this series.

8. BEETHOVEN I think all kids would love to have a big adorable dog like Beethoven. Each time we watch this my kids want to know when we are getting a dog. We have a cat and that's enough.

9. PETER PAN Peter Pan makes everyday life seem so boring. He takes us all into his world of make believe and keeps the children's imaginations going. There's a lot of action in this movie to keep the kids interested.

10. STUART LITTLE We first saw this in the theater but have rented it many times since (seems like if we BUY the movie, it doesn't get watched as often so we just rent them mostly). Who wouldn't like to have a sibling that was so tiny he could do things that you couldn't but always wanted to. My kids really get a kick out of the talking cats.
