EAT OUT

Jun 08 '01

The Bottom Line It is really quite simple. This opinion may contain a few items you never thought of or did not know.

I am the first person to tackle this subject. Why might this be? Because cleaning out a keyboard, I believe, is common sense! How hard can it be to put your brain to work and figure out how to clean a keyboard? Maybe I am just being a bit harsh.

First off there are some precautions that should be taken. Do not clean the keyboard when it is plugged in. This could cause electrocution. Do not use water to clean the keyboard as water and electricity do not mix. Be sure not to use harsh abrasives when cleaning a keyboard. You do not want to have the letters and other keys missing their tiny stickers. Alright here are some steps to clean out the keyboard so that filthy grime and finger prints will come off; making your keyboard look brand new.

First
Unplug the keyboard from the rest of the computer. If your keyboard is wireless, then remove the batteries to feel safer.

Second
Acquire a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment. Use the hose attachment to suck out any food particles of other objects that may be inside the keyboard. Do this for a few minutes.

Next
Turn the keyboard upside down and gently shake it to knock loose any objects that may have been wedged between keys.

Again
While holding the keyboard upside down with one hand, vacuum it out again with the other hand. Be sure to use the smallest hose attachment you can find for the vaccum (the brush type is preferable).

Avoidance
If you do not want to worry about cleaning your keyboard out anymore, then do not eat near the keyboard. This will greatly reduce the number of times you will have to clean your keyboard. Instead of snacking around the computer; EAT OUT! Warm other members of your family or other users of the computer that food and beverages are not allowed.

Conclusion
It is really quite simple to clean out a keyboard. Rarely will you have to disassemble any parts. They make tools for cleaning out keyboards, but my way will be the most convenient as most people do not own these specialized tools. Have fun and remember to plug the keyboard back in! Oh yea, to get those finger prints off use a soft cloth with mildly abrasive cleaner. (non abrasive works, too).
