My husband and I purchased two goblets from Mug Heaven to use as our toasting glasses for our wedding. We searched high and low to find exactly what we wanted and mugheaven.com turned out to have the best selection and relatively good prices compared to other places. However, the biggest attraction was that this site offers pieces by a variety of different artists all in one place and everything is handmade.
The design of the site didn't overly impress me. The graphics are largely purple, pink and blue which just doesn't appeal and the whole thing has the feeling of a yahoo store. This didn't completely deter from my browsing experience because the design isn't awful, I just didn't personally like it.
Navigating mugheaven.com is super simple. You can choose from a variety of categories, search by keyword or browse by color or size. True to the store's name, Mug Heaven focuses primarily on drinking vessels including pottery wine glasses & goblets, but they also feature bowls, dinnerware, and vases. Many of the mugs offered are cute or whimsical and have themes such as animals, faces, and holiday designs. Most of the other item categories are somewhat plain in comparison, but they are by no means less beautiful. Although less plentiful, there are occasionally garden art pieces, sculpture, and cookie jars available. Mug Heaven also offers gift packages, personalized pieces, and a new arrivals section.
The display page for each individual item offers a description which includes the size, price, materials, and recommended care. There are usually a few sentences about the artist and from here you can choose to browse other pieces created by the same person. Each item also has a clickable picture to view a larger version which is nice since so many vendors forget to offer this. Of course, you can also add your choices to the shopping cart from each product page.
The shopping cart process is rather standard although Mug Heaven does offer discounts on multiple items orders as well as a shipping discount on each additional mug (past the first) by the same artist. All items are shipped within a few days as this is a one person operation. They utilize UPS, Federal Express, and USPS based on which will offer the lowest rate. You don't specifically have a choice unless you request one in particular. Because pottery is highly breakable mugheaven.com does insure each package and offers to replace any items broken in transit.
When I placed my order I promptly received a confirmation email. My package arrived within a few days but unfortunately one of the goblets was chipped. Mug Heaven did keep up their guarantee and they immediately sent me a new goblet - I even got to keep the chipped one! I used Visa to pay for my order but they also accept Mastercard, American Express, and PayPal as well as personal checks. All of the store's contact information, policies, and shipping/returns info are provided in detail on one page. Mug Heaven does offer a registry/wish list feature although I didn't use this.
I couldn't have been more satisfied with my mugheaven.com order. I felt this merchant had a great selection of merchandise and was up front about everything. I was definitely impressed that the owner did indeed replace the broken goblet and it was nice not to have to ship the piece back and then wait for a new one to arrive. I would definitely order from Mug Heaven again and already have my eye on some of their textured mugs.
