Pros: Gets dirt out efficiently and without a messy application. Very cost-effective.

The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend it for anyone how has had trouble getting the dirt/grime out of a particular surface.

| rswreview's Full Review: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser |
Why I bought this product:
I happened to come across a box of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers in the front sale section at Wal-Mart and picked up a box of 2 to try out to clean our bathtub (which has had stubborn water stains for quite sometime). I had tried a number of cleaning agents on the bathtub (Clorox, Ajax, Comet, PineSol, Lysol, Scrubbing Bubbles, OxyClean), but none of them were successful enough to bring our tub back to its original porcelain-white color.
Product claims:
-Easily cleans dirt and grime, penetrates surface grooves where dirt/grime normally gets trapped.
-Does not require the use of gloves
-Breaks up tough dirt, lifting it away from surfaces with just water alone
-Can be used for: set-in dirt on stoves, refrigerators, other appliances, scuff marks on walls, floors, doors, bathroom soap scum on sinks, tubs, toilets, dirt on patio furniture.
Instructions for use:
1. Wet eraser with water, then squeeze out excess.
2. Gently rub eraser on surface to remove tough dirt and grime.
3. Throw away after multiple uses.
Warnings printed on product packaging:
-Not recommended for use on surfaces that are polished/glossy, or on finishes that are brushed, satin or dark.
-Test first on an inconspicuous spot with light pressure to see if surface may scratch.
-Keep out of reach of toddlers and pets to avoid accidental ingestion.
-Do not use with chlorine bleach.
-If using for dishwashing, rinse dishes thoroughly.
What I liked:
This product definitely lives up to its name when it comes to removing dirt and grime "like you never could." I have tried other brand name cleaners but with only moderate results. With Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, I was able to restore my tub to its original condition and color, and I was able to remove the stubborn reddish/brown rust and water stains near the drain that no other cleaner I tried was able to remove.
After using it on my entire tub, I got a carried away and tried the second eraser on a number of different surfaces, with excellent results:
-The bathroom sink
-The outside of the toilet and the toilet lid
-Our tiled bathroom floor
-Our stainless steel kitchen sink
-The refrigerator door
-The stove top
-The outside of the rice cooker
-And believe it or not, some of my athletic sneakers (though not so effective on the fabric parts)
I didn't notice any scratching or chipping while using the product on all of the surfaces mentioned above. It was very easy to use and seemed relatively nontoxic with no offending chemical odors and no harsh effects on my hands.
What I didn't like:
After using one eraser on my tub, the spongey material simply started to break apart and withered down to a thin, floppy, crumbly mess. Of course after having used the second eraser on all of the above surfaces, the eraser had broken into about four pieces and I had to squash them together to continue using it.
Regarding product claims:
According to my experience with this product, I would have to say it does live up to most of its claims. However, the one thing I noticed was that the instructions say to "gently" rub the eraser over the surface, but I felt I had to apply a substantial amount of pressure to really get the dirt out of certain areas.
Overall recommendation:
I would certainly recommend this product, especially for cleaning surfaces in the bathroom and kitchen. Although it did break apart easily, it was still relatively easy to use and I think, rather cost-effective considering other methods of cleaning that require a cleaning liquid (i.e., spray) and device (i.e., sponge, rag, etc.).
