customer service and shipping practices at music123 (Reply to this comment)
by timj68
Well my story starts in late July 2008 I had been scammed on Amazon on and Epiphone G-1275 in the cherry red color I had been told by the seller that this guitar was new and had no chips scratches, etc.
I received it and found that it looked like someone use it to dig up tree stumps with.
I also found this thing had strap lock horns on it from a strap lock system so much for it being new and another hard lesson learned no more buying from Amazon for me,the volume pots were not working so there was no sound.
Once again I was on the prowl for a double neck guitar I came across music123 a found they had a G-1275,in alpine white I really didn't want the thing to be honest about it but got to thinking my Gibson Les Paul is white and doesn't smudge as bad as a Michael Kelly guitar that I have in the flamed cherry red color.
So it was decided I wouldn't be driven up the wall by finger prints on my guitar so I did it I ordered the guitar in early August as memory serves me.
Just as soon as UPS shoved the box in my face and took off as if they were running in a nascar race the smile left my face I had a feeling I should have told the guy to put the box right back on the truck.
The guitar was in the shipping carton that it was received in at the warehouse,in other words it should have been put into a double walled shipping box and not just sent out in the box that Epiphone shippied to them in...
I noticed that the box was ripped open on the left hand side which was the side of the six string neck of the guitar before I even got into the house I was able to reach into the box and feel that there was a guitar in it duh..
Further inspection found that it looked like someone had a pair of hiking boots on and literally grabbed the box by the headstock end and tried their best to brake the thing in two I opened the box up I just knew this wasn't going to be good...!
Well to my surprise there was'nt as much damage as one would figure but upon inspecting and I mean with a magnifying glass I found that the twelve string neck was cracking right where it was set into the body.
I had only had the guitar for about twenty two hours at this point, anyone can imagine my anger over this deal so I let that boil over in privet then sent a email and kept it as civil as I could.
I told them that it really was more of a shipping problem and that I was beyond angry with this situation, this being only the second deal where I'd ordered and had to ship back I then told them I'd lost over $60.00 having to ship another guitar back and wasn't going to get stuck with the shipping on this one point blank...!
Their reply came swiftly with an offer of a complete refund or they could do an exchange,of course I don't buy thing over the internet to get them shipped to my home for a private test drive and a couple day use and then send them back to get my money back after the newness wares off.
So I told yes I want another one that is not damaged they had UPS pick the guitar up the day before I sent it back the case I bought for it came which was also no good (but it didn't come from music123)and the strap lock system I bought arrived the day after the guitar came those were good:-).
Upon having UPS pick up this guitar I got a tracking number about five day's after the guitar was received by the Kansas city warehouse I got the faithful back order automated email it stated that the item I'd ordered was temporarily out of stock.
But don't worry they will be in on September the first 2008,well I went looking for answer's and found that musicians fried was also out of stock on these so I thought fine I'll wait.
In the mean time I went back to the music123 site and found they had put the one I sent back up for sale as blemished I feel sorry for who ever bought it because the twelve string neck eventually will come undone from the body.
I also check the button that said email me when this item is back in stock I was told the first day of September 2008 the email I got from clicking the email me when back in stock told me the 15th,this does not bother me as much as the fact that this situation could have been avoided all together had some simple things been done such as double carton shipping.
And another thing as well which I wouldn't lay on music123 as being their problem but any good luthier (guitar tech)would tell you right away to detune the strings on any guitar that is going to be stored for extended periods of time (like in a warehouse)and do the same thing if its going to be shipped.
I let them know they really needed to address this shipping situation as far as how these things are boxed up for shipping they could only tell me they can't contact the warehouse my question is then how does the warehouse get their shipping information!? Anyhow I sent an email to music123 last night and asked that they send me a tracking number as soon as they get these guitars back in stock they came off with the truth that it would likely be the 15th of this month September 2008 I intend on contacting them again today to try and pry some information out of them for a way to contact their vice president or who ever to address the lack luster shipping practices their using.
I can't seem to get the straight and narrow on who now owns music123 but from what I've read its musicians friend which I have had plenty of problems with, which has resulted in me discontinuing any business with.

...sound like a place to avoid. I do hope that the guitar arrives before Christmas.

I was wondering a bit about the actual website. Is it easy to navigate? Are prices clearly posted? What all do they carry?

If you update please email me so that I can reread/rate....Happy Holidays....kath
