Awesome specs make this a wonderful value. 2.8ghz P4, 512 RAM, 60 gig HD, 24xCDRW, 1xDVD-RW, 802.11g, Infrared port, 4 USB 2.0's, Firewire, Media Card Reader, sound out, mic in, buttons for playing dvd/cd on the front, next, stop, pause, external monitor port, printer port, ethernet 10/100. Harman/Kardon speakers sound fantastic with iTunes.
I was actually surprised, but I really like the keyboard too. I thought I'd hate it along with most other laptop keyboards. This is FULL-SIZED unlike many other keyboards. No problems with my model for only $1350 online. Best value any of my friends have found.
CONS:
Battery life is only about 60 minutes if you have the power settings to Full Power. You can easily get 90 minutes if you have the HD spin less & turn the screen brightness down. In low power mode you can easily get 120 min.
You won't want this on your lap either since it gets hot.
I recommend upgrading the 256 RAM to 1024 as well & selling the old RAM.
DVD-RW burner is only 1x, but I just upgraded to an external 16x dual layer for only $101.98 shipped.
UPDATE:
I purchased this refurbished on 1/6/04 from mpsuperstore which I do NOT recommend & one day the monitor wouldn't wake up.
The touchpad used to allow me to tap it twice with my fingers too in order to open files or programs, but that quit within a couple weeks. The buttons still work fine, but the touchpad doing it as well was nice.
The screen also arrived with one "dead pixel" right in the middle of the screen, but I realize this is well within acceptable standards. It's fairly annoying though if watching a dark DVD on it like Underworld because it shows red. Perhaps it is merely left permanently "on"?
Took it to Best Buy for the "Geek Squad" & they connected to an external monitor & it would show the computer booting up, but as soon as I was to login to my WinXP account the screen would go black. They thought my video card was shot or possibly the motherboard, but that still doesn't make sense to me that it would show booting up, but not once I logged in.
I ended up mailing it to MackCam.com in which I have a 3 year warranty through mpsuperstore for $199. S&H was already $12 & I insured it for $1000 too. They didn't notify me what the problem was though when it was returned. It just worked.
In the end....GET A WARRANTY.
