Cons: Quality control and fuel economy issues yet to be resolved
The Bottom Line: Ownership satisfaction for the SRX appears to be very high. As with any make of vehicle, problems some times plague an individual unit.
This is the third Cadillac my wife and I have owned. The SRX is a new model and like all new creations, there are some bugs to work out. We opted for the 320hp V-8 and the full opening sunroof. Performance wise, the SRX beats the pants off Mercedes, BMW and Lexus (I have driven them all under testing conditions). With manual shift capability, this vehicle just roars by most other cars on the road. With Cadillac's Stabili-Trac, turns and cornering are rock solid. The rear cargo area is sufficient for our needs (no kids) and the flip down seats provide all the room one would need. Front and rear seating is comfortable. Programing all the various functions for two drivers is a little confusing unless you have some computer knowledge. All-in-all, this is a fun performance SUV (built on a CTS platform).
Downside: Our SRX has been in three times for a small oil leak. Apparently, this necessitates dropping the engine to get at the source of the leak. The car is usually at the dealer for 4-7 days. After all these attempts, the leak persists. The retractable roof squeaked badly and came slightly off the track. It took two trips to Cadillac service to get that fixed. One day upon opening the passenger side door, we heard a popping noise and discovered that the front edge of the door was out of alignment and pushed against the rear edge of the fender, damaging the door and fender. Poor quality control for a $50,000 vehicle. Additionally, the V-8 takes premium fuel only. This gets expensive, especially here in California. Cadillac needs to get this Northstar to burn regular gas.
The SRX will be an outstanding vehicle, but give it a couple of years for Cadillac to get rid of the annoying bugs.
