The primary reason that we decided to try Blockbuster Entertainment Online Store was due to the fact that we had successfully been a member at Netflix for a substantial period of time and we were curious how the two would compare. Add this to the fact that we found out that we could try the Blockbuster online rental plan service free for a phase of time (or receive a free DVD), well... we decided to give it a try. I can say that we are pleased with the selections offered, with the ease of use at the web site, with the delivery time, and with the maintenance of our online rental plan. If you are looking for an online rental plan, and also want storefront privileges, I recommend trying Blockbuster Online.
========== DETAILS ==========
With regards to online rental plans, Blockbuster Entertainment Online offers three options:
3 DVDs at a time: $17.49 per month
5 DVDs at a time: $27.49 per month
8 DVDs at a time: $37.49 per month
plus applicable taxes
These plans allow you to have the stated amount of DVD's, for unlimited time. In order to receive the movies, after you have created an account you need to create a Queue - a place on the site in which you manage the movies that you want to receive under your rental plan. You can browse the movie selections on the site and add movies of interest to your queue. You can place the movies into the order in which you want to receive them. The queue shows which movies have been shipped, the 'expected' date of arrival, and the requested movies.
When a movie is shipped, you receive an email stating an approximate date of arrival. In our experience, we usually receive the movie prior to the date mentioned, occasionally on the same day mentioned. Recently there was a movie that stated a 'short wait' at Netflix, yet Blockbuster had it available. In fact we received said DVD two days after requesting it (from Blockbuster. The movies arrive in an envelope that is approximately 7" x 5 1/2". This envelope also serves as the postage-paid return envelope.
Unlike Netflix, where we are limited to online transactions, Blockbuster Entertainment Online Store encourages us to visit the storefront. Each month we receive two free in-store rentals (via use of e-coupons) - either game or movie. My youngest daughter is especially fond of this, as she likes to visit and rent games from our local storefront, which is very close to our home. Additionally, the DVD's that we receive have a coupon on them: for example a popcorn tub and a 2-liter Coca-Cola for $2.49.
An irritation that we maintain with regard to Netflix is that certain DVD's take longer to receive, as they are not shipped from the local warehouse. Well, thus far this hasn't appeared to be the same service practice at Blockbuster, even DVD's that are possibly rare or old, are shipped from the Seattle branch.
In addition to the online rental service you can use this site to purchase movies and/or games (new and previously viewed/played). You can also locate local storefronts and see if local stores carry the movie/game titles that you want. The web site tells you what specials the store offers, and allows you to purchase gift cards. And, of course you can view information about Blockbuster company and check on career options.
Payments Accepted:
Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express
Overall we are pleased with Blockbuster Entertainment Online and recommend the online rental service. We still like Netflix, but have to admit that the coupon incentives have made Blockbuster a more appreciated option by our youngest daughter. She likes to visit the actual store, touch the DVD cases and games, and use those free in-store rental coupons. However it is important to remember that the store coupons allow you to a free rental which falls under the same conditions as normal in-store rentals. So... you don't get to keep those selections for an unlimited amount of time. The limited 'keep' time is one of the primary reasons that I converted to an online 'unlimited time frame' rental plan. I loathe time constraints on rentals, but it is safe to say that my youngest daughter is fine with them, as she is always able to watch/play the movie/game rented. Personally I need to freedom of keeping the DVD until I am ready to return it.
