The Bottom Line yeah, the list is subjective, but if you like the kind of movies i like -romantic comedies, action/adventure, and drama, check out the list.

Defining my "10 Best Movies of All Time" - of course, this is subjective, but maybe if your likes fall in line with mine you might get some ideas of good movies to check out, in case you haven't yet seen some on the list. Personally, my favorites fall into the categories of Comedies and Romantic Comedies, Action Adventure, and Dramas. (i.e. anything that sends chills up my spine) - sort of listed in descending order, but in fact not in any particular order...

10. Wedding Singer - This is a "feel-good" movie, romance, comedy, just enough surprises to keep me interested, and a tear-jerker at the same time. My kind of movie...The story from the mid-80's, of a guy who meets a girl - both already are in relationships, but we know as soon as we meet the "others" that they are not good relationships.....the story is how they both come to realize (at different times, nearly) that they are meant for each other, and how they nearly miss getting together at all, in the end.....The reason I like this movie, and include it on my list, is because the movie makes me laugh, cry, think about relationships, and i can easily put myself in the main character's life.

9. The Sound of Music - This movie still makes me cry, sing, and cheer for the good guys winning at the end. It sends shivers thru me, during the intense scene when the family is hiding from the Nazi's, behind the pillars, when a gasp from one almost gives their presence away. The way that the story builds, from a light musical comedy, to an intense historic drama, with just a touch of the humor still there, makes this one of the best movies of all time, in my opinion. A musical from the70's, and Julie Andrew's best, I believe.

8. My Cousin Vinnie - One of my favorite parts of ANY movie, is in the courthouse, when Lisa (Marisa Tomei) surprises everyone with her unbelievable knowledge of cars, and ends up almost single handedly saving the day for the two young boys wrongly accused of murder. They are two young college kids, driving thru the south from New York to California, and end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. The clerk in the store ends up dead, and they are the most likely suspects, with eye witnesses included. As the story unfolds, it seems like they are getting in deeper, and the prospects of proving their innocence seem more and more remote. This movie probably warrants being called a "date flick" - it definitely falls under the category of "romantic comedy", and has lots of wonderful surprises throughout.

7. Trading Places - If you like comedies, you almost HAVE to love Eddie Murphy. This one combines his talents with Dan Akroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis, in a hilarious story of mistaken identity, and revenge. Two conniving rich guys decide to play a little game with the lives of their prize employee Lewis (Dan Akroyd), and "substitute" Eddie Murphy in his place, with no intention of helping either, but just as an "experiment" into human nature. Their plan backfires, "in spades" as it were, and the movie ends with the audience cheering for the underdogs that can make it if they work together.

6. Used Cars - Finding a silly comedy that actually has a story line, and some excitement and drama is tough, but this one fits the bill. Almost gripping "edge of your seat" drama, when the boss dies, but his brother can't know about it, so a way has to be found to hide the facts - with a glitch thrown in that includes lying to the daughter, the story has to nearly spiral downward to keep up with the action. Some might wonder why this movie is even on the list, but I don't think a movie has to be a big box office hit to make it to a favorite's list. As i said at the beginning, this list is subjective, and therefore based on my own "humble" opinion.

5. A Summer to Remember This movie, while not a box office hit, surely makes my list of "favorite movies" - it is the story of a deaf boy, and his sister, who accidentally meet an orangutan, that just happens to know sign language. An unusual and deep friendship ensues, in a touching movie about a child's innocence, and trusting love. Some cute mishaps occur as they attempt to save "Casey" from the circus, but in the end, when the boy actually must talk to bring Casey back, makes me cry every time. I recommend it for the whole family, but make sure that the tissues are handy.

4. Beverly Hills Cop - another Eddie Murphy comedy, of a New York cop on vacation/sabbatical, in Los Angeles, who finds himself in the middle of a crime wave, and has to use some of his "unconventional" means to solve one of the biggest crimes in the city. Full of action, and excitement, with the typical Eddie Murphy comedy added, it makes for a fun and exciting movie to curl up with on the couch, popcorn on your lap.

3. The Shawshank Redemption - This is a poignant drama, set in a prison...the story of Andy (Tim Robbins) wrongly accused of murdering his wife and her lover, sentenced to two life terms at Shawshank. He meets and befriends another lifer, Red, played by Morgan Freeman, and over the course of the 20 + years that Andy spends behind bars, he makes his own impact on the prison, and the people around him. This movie makes me think, and it inspires me, with a good feeling at the end, of the "good guys winning, and the truth finding a way". I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

2. The Usual Suspect - I like Kevin Spacey, and this is probably his best work, in my opinion. It has the most surprising story line, and ending of any movie I have ever seen, and will leave you almost gasping, in shock, as You nod your head, and shaking your head, as you wonder how it go to that point. I refuse to give away any of the movie plot, because this is one movie that I think you should see, without knowing anything going in, if you trust any of my words, thus far, just see this movie. (NOT suitable for children)

1. The Man from Snowy River - My second favorite scene of any movie is the horse chase scene here, when Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson) has been brought back to the ranch of arrogant selfish former boss (Kirk Douglas), to help a team of riders find a valuable runaway colt. The pack of horses runs down a steep ravine, and none follow, but Jim's mountain horse jumps over the edge, and heads down the nearly vertical drop - it is unbelievable that he survives, and he not only lives thru it, but rounds up the herd, and brings them home....This is the best "feel-good" movie I have ever seen, romantic, beautiful scenes set in Australia, a fine double role played by Kirk Douglas, and two new stars that lighten the stage -Tom Burlinson and Sigrid Thornton...I hope you will agree that it is a fine movie, worthy of multiple viewings, as I have done.
