Pros: Excellent style, reliable company & great performance.
Cons: Touch-pad navigation (for some), can't transfer files from 1 player to another, which color?
The Bottom Line: This is the next hit player just because it does everything the way it is supposed to and then some!

| fozzy_bear's Full Review: Creative Labs Zen Micro (5 GB) Black MP3 Player |
You would think I was talking about a car or something. Well if Creative made cars like this I would be in line to buy one.
For me this player is replacing a NOMAD Jukebox that was purchased about 6 years ago! So I was long overdue for a new MP3 Player. Boy I couldn't have picked a better time to decide I was due a new player.
First off just looking at the thing makes you want to pick it up and start touching it. The user interface seems to make sense and is easy to navigate. The player has some nice features like removable battery (free for limited edition players), FM Radio with presets, Sync with outlook contacts, tasks and calendar. The unit will also record sound via a small mic at the top or FM radio.
The sounds produced is excellent loud and clear! With a pair of noise cancelling headphones this thing rocks!
Wired remote control for $20.00 we should all have one the uses for this are endless!
The only downside that I can see is that you can't swap the colors..once you buy the color you want thats it. The touch pad will take some getting used to. If you hate the touch pads on a laptop then this player might not be the right fir for you. The FM Radio is soso as far as reception is concerned..outdoors is much better than indoors. There is also no way to accurately see how much battery life is left besides looking at the little bars in the battery indicator...a percentage in the system menu would be nice. Would also be nice if there was a station identification with Song ID (I know I'm asking for the world)!
I have not owned or tried an IPOD but I have heard some of the negative press regarding the players. Creative seems to have taken most of the better features of the IPOD and rolled them into the ZEN micro. Very well done I must say! I think this will be a big..very big hit!
UPDATE 12/13/04: I have read other reviews where users were commenting about shortened battery life. Well creative has responded to these concerns and relased a new firmware to resolve this issue. Apparently this firmware release also deals with touchpad issues as well. Although I have not had a chance to test the battery issue with the new firmware update the touch pad is much easier to use with the new firmware...it is not as sensative to the touch, it now seems to be right where it should.
The firmware deals with the following issues:
Fixes
* Improves battery life when the player is charged with an AC adapter already plugged into a live power outlet
* Improves touchpad sensitivity
* Resolves the removable disk detection issue after the memory space is changed in Removable Disk mode
* Removes extraneous sound occuring during playback of .WAV files
