LillianVernon.com is the online presence for the catalog company started by its namesake, Lillian Vernon. My wife receives their catalogs on a frequent basis, and the most recent catalog earned its pay in our household. She found several interesting ideas for Christmas for our boys, so we went online and shopped.

The prospective shopper can look items up by catalog number, by browsing the virtual pages of the catalog or by drilling down through a series of menus similar to most online shopping. What sets LillianVernon.com apart from other stores of this nature is the ability to personalize most any item for free. For instance, we bought a dinosaur set that comes in a bucket; the bucket was personalized with our first son's name on it for no additional charge. For our third son we bought a cloth set of toys that come with a cloth container which was monogrammed for free, as well. This is a very nice touch that will help our kids to remember which toy belongs to whom, even if they will choose to ignore it later...
We may come back when gifts are needed, as the luggage bags we found were very nice. With a personalized monogram, this would be the perfect gift. However, this time around we didn't have a need for the luggage, so the toys and a few other items were chosen and checked out.

After plugging in the items we were interested in buying, I proceeded to checkout. The checkout system at LillianVernon.com is secure and Verisign Authenticated. The site will allow you to ship your order to addresses other than the billing address as well as multiple addresses, which could come in handy around Christmas time. For my order, all of it was coming to our house so I didn't have to worry about any of that. The site allows users to pay for the order with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Diner's Club cards.
LillianVernon.com utilizes USPS shipping and offers Standard (10-14 days) Expedited and Overnight. As we were ordering early, we chose to use the Standard shipping, which cost us nothing. Nothing? That is right, as the site is running a special that allows for free shipping on all orders over $65 when Standard delivery is utilized. Knowing that the special will not be running all the time, I found the following page for normal shipping costs. They seem reasonable, although I like the free shipping better as it saved us $13.95 on this shopping excursion!

Order Fulfillment
Once the order was placed, we received an email confirmation. All of the information was correct, so I didn't respond. Six days later the shipment notification email arrived and five days after that the package arrived, safe and sound and in time for Christmas. We received our package within the allotted 10-14 days total time from placing the order, and that was with the personalized names added onto the order.

However, knowing that the company has been around since 1951 leads me to believe that their customer service is decent.

We found what we wanted in the catalog, ordered it online and are happy with the results. My wife is excited to give the gifts to the boys, as they appear to be high-quality toys that arrived within the allotted amount of time for a good price. The free shipping was icing on the cake, and I would recommend checking this site out if you are in the gift-buying mood!
