Replace "The Professional" with "Nikita" (Reply to this comment)
by schof
"Nikita" (also known as "La Femme Nikita") is a far better movie. Don't be confused by the incredibly crappy American remake starring Bridget Fonda called "Point of No Return," this subtitled French picture is one of the best action movies ever made.
It's also where (as far as I know) Jean Reno first did the character he repeated in "The Professional," a movie I didn't really like. Reno is only in "Nikita" for a few minutes, but he makes an impact like you wouldn't believe -- a psychopathic but professional killer who acts like Richard Daumer crossed with a Navy SEAL team.
Everything else about the movie rocks too, especially Anne Parillaud as the street kid Nikita turned professional assassin.
(I've seen the dubbed version, and it doesn't completely suck, but the subtitled version is much, much, much better.)

Thelma and Louise is definetly one of my favorites and I'm a gun totin woman, job requirement wise, ha. Out of your other choices Shawshank,L.A. Confidential, and Sixth Sense are also my favorites. Hailey Joel Osment is a brilliant child actor and as well as Pay It Forward, I love his movies. Great Review!

This is the first Top Ten List... (Reply to this comment)

that I almost agree with completely. Had you dropped Thelma and Louise for Fight Club, we could have been 100% in sync. Anyway, great article, great choices.

You do seem to like the more violent films. (Reply to this comment)

This is a very good list. Usually I find one or two on any of these lists that I strongly disagree with, but not here. However, Goodfellas is #1 on my own epinions top 10 list, and it only made an honorable mention on yours.

Another Great Review! (Reply to this comment)

I totally agree with most of your pics...seeing Fargo, however, put a big smile on my face. Being from Minnesota, it's fun to see how the rest of America thinks we talk and exist, but the truth is, we all thought they talked funny too!
Keep up the great top ten lists!

Great choice of movies (Reply to this comment)

and I agreed with nearly all of them. And I just had to smile when I saw "Searching For Bobby Fischer". That movie was seen by so few people, and I was reluctant to see it, but it's one of my all-time favorites. There's just something so special about it.
Anyway, loved your review!

I really like 'The Professional'...it's my favorite film of all time. It was also refreshing to see 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' on this list. I LOVED that film & saw it in the theater. Had know idea what it was about, but was relieved to find out that Mr. Ripley was a bit unstable...one of the most twisted films out there...

Good List (Reply to this comment)

Although a few I disagreed with you on (thought The Talented Mr. Ripley was severely overrated), most all your choices were right on the money: The Usual Suspects, Thelma and Louise, Shawshank Redemption, The Sixth Sense...
Thanks, Lisa. Enjoyed your review very much.

P.S. Thanks for adding me to your WOT. It's an honor.

Great Choices! (Reply to this comment)

This category has been overdone and some people give the worst movies credit as being good. the Usual Suspects and on of my favorite ones RUN LOLA RUN! I didnt really like the Sixth Sense but a lot of people do for some reason.
Well, great review as usual

...but one correction: The Sixth Sense DVD does not, alas, have a director's commentary track. There is a brief interview with the director in the Special Features section of the disc; I imagine that this is what you're thinking of.
Keep up the great work!
