Your father's impromptu rendition of The Hurricane in the video store sounds exactly like something my Dad would do. Are all middle-aged Dylan fans shameless?
Cheers,
Nat

Arazim,
Tyler is in my wake and Kalamazoo is now where I lay my head and my lady. Why Michigan? A fair question. The simple answer is that my wife grew-up in the Kalamazoo area and most of her family and friends are here. It's also closer to my mate seanoppaddy who has ended up in Buffalo, and of course, it's not Texas!
Cheers,
Nat

My father is a huge Dylan fan as well. Although he never played his albums when i was young. I don't even remember seeing any until after him and my mother divorced, and while at his house I saw some cassettes with Bob Dylan on the spine and wondered who the hell he was. I discovered Bob intermittenly through the years and soon discovered a song I liked completely "Shelter from the Storm".
My dad still is enamored with Bob. Once while walking through the video store, he walked up to the display for The Hurricane, picked up teh case and began singing all EIGHT MINUTES OF THE SONG TO HIMSELF IN THE STORE!

Leaving Tyler? (Reply to this comment)
by Arazim
Texas is losing one of its finest non-native sons. And for Michigan, of all places. Mine is not to question why... but you'll tell us, right?
The parallels of our lives continues, as my need to reclaim the music of home soon after moving out has made its way into my first draft for this W/O, for all the same reasons. Once again you write a mighty fine piece, Nat. Lay that "Lay Lady Lay" on your lady today, why wait another day?

Nice job. I have never been able to get into the Dylan bandwidth, but I have respect for those who do. He's an original and millions and millions can't be wrong.
Good luck on the move. I'll be on the road too this weekend - on my way to Paris. It's especially bad because I'll miss Father's Day with my son.

Paul,
Thanks for the kudos, and for inviting me to take part in the first place. Though I like what I have written, I can't help but feel that I didn't totally say what I wanted to - some things just can't be put into words.
Cheers,

Howard,
Thanks very much mate. I have no doubt that you and Dad would get on like a house on fire if you ever met! I will give him your regards.
Cheers,
Nat

What a wonderful tribute to both your dad and Dylan. You did a great job of capturing your relationships.
Sorry you won't see your "old man" this Father's Day -- but, it sounds like you'll have the next best thing.

P.S. Thanks for taking part. . .

Nat, what a super tribute to your Dad (Reply to this comment)
by Howard_Creech
He sounds like a neat guy, just a couple of years younger than me, and we've traveled along a few of the same roads. When you talk to him on Father's Day tell him Hi from one of his contemporaries who also loves Bob Dylan, and thinks his son obviously inherited some pretty impressive talent from his "old man".
