The Bottom Line A nice site with bright featured cards, but the every day cards aren't as terrific. In general, I'll stick to the paper cards from the store.

While reading an opinion by KCFemme, I saw that Hallmark had an e-card website. I have frequented most of the web sites where free greetings can be sent, but I had not ventured to this one as of yet. To be honest, I never knew you could send free cards from Hallmark.
I decided to check it out and I am glad that I did, for I now have a new site to send cards from so that I am not sending the same card a zillion times to people for their birthday's and such. (I just hope I never send the same card to the same person, for the same occasion! That would be BAD!)
When I arrived at the site, I found the usual listing of upcoming holidays and reasons to send cards. Those are always helpful, for sometimes you can find an extra reason to send a card that you never knew about! Then I began to browse the normal occasions and was glad to see quite a selection of holidays and such. My next step was to find my category and check out the variety of cards.
I had decided upon sending a friendship card to a dear friend of mine. I selected the Friendship category and began to browse. There were three pages (approximately 9 cards per page) of friendship cards. Unfortunately, they weren't that great of cards. There were a few with animals, but most were dull looking. Kind of colored pencil sketched designs or weird looking people. This wasn't what I had in mind for a bright and cheery friendship card at all.
I finally found a card that was decent enough and I selected it. The preview section was really nice. The card loaded and played and then I could personalize it for the recipient, which I did. I entered her email address and my message for the card and then I entered my name and email address and when I wanted the card sent. There is an option to receive notice when the card is viewed, as well. You can also use their optional address book to save the email addresses of those that you frequently send cards too. This was easy to set up and came in handy!
Well, that card was sent with ease! Let's try another. My step mother in law needs an encouraging card, so let's try Encouragement! Huh? Only two pages of encouragement and most of them are from the Friendship card section? What's up with that? To me, I see encouragement as picking up those who may be going through a rough time, but these cards would depress them! I looked through each and every one and ended up choosing a card from the Friendship page that was somewhat cheery. Again, I personalized it, set my options and sent it out.
What's my take on this site? Well, it isn't as slow as others who are sharing opinions have stated, at least it was not one bit slow for me. Things went smoothly. The cards for upcoming holidays are delightful. They are bright and brilliant and well displayed. However, the every day cards aren't as fabulous. There are some nice birthday type cards, but the general over look is that Hallmark went with the cheapest art work possible and that disturbs me. I have been a Hallmark shopper for many years.
The internet is great, but not when it comes to sending Hallmark cards. I do care enough to send the very best, whether email or snail mail. When it comes to sending Hallmark cards, I will stick to the stores and paper cards, unless it's a featured holiday.
