Historically, I have been a LOYAL Amazon.com customer, that is, until this year. I, along with my sister and a close friend, placed separate orders on November 30 and December 1, which should have allowed ample time for Christmas delivery. Contrary to the website representations as to availability and time to ship when we placed our orders, as of several days before Christmas, none of our items had even shipped. Had we not checked the status on-line, we would not have realized there was a problem since Amazon fails to advise customers of any shipping delays. Although some items ultimately arrived on Christmas Eve (after a series of phone calls and emails), some items have still not even shipped. I also had to cancel some back ordered items (that were listed as available to ship in 1-2 business days at the time I placed the order) and battle the crowds to find the items elsewhere. I have already diverted a substantial amount of business to other vendors based upon Amazon's failure to provide realistic shipping estimates for products. By the way, I would not bother to email Amazon about problems - you will get condescending, form responses that do not truly address the problem, and attempt to shift the blame to the customer. Instead call the 1-800 numbers:

The customer service representatives are more likely to try to resolve the problem. If you complain loudly enough, you may also be provided with an Amazon.com voucher. Better yet, shop elsewhere and save yourself the hassle.
