The Opposite Experience! (Reply to this comment)
by wantthetruth
I have been a Cingular customer for over two years now and have been mostly satisfied with their phone services. The reason why I have chosen to stay with Cingular is because of the rollover minutes. With this, over time I no longer have to worry about how long I talk period.
Recently We decided to upgrade our service to a rate plan that offered more, for less than what we were paying now, but was told by the Cingular customer service rep that in order to upgrade our service we must also upgrade our phones. This did not sit well with us since we had already invested a considerable amount of money into professional install car kits for all of our vehicles, and with new phones these car kits would become useless.
When I asked the customer service rep why we couldn't keep our old phones, I was told that all the new service plans accepts GSM phones only and that ours were TDMA. Being a techie myself this just didn't sound right to me so I told the rep that we would think about it and call back if we decide to do this. I then went to nokia.com to pull up the information about our model of phones and found out that our phones were indeed GSM compatible in fact they were quad band phones and would work with any type of celluar system. With this info in hand and after looking over some of the new models of phones I decided to go ahead and upgrade only one of our phones(mine), and started to place the order through the cingular online store @ cingular.com I also chose a couple of accessories to go with my new phone just as many of us do. But when I was ready to check out, an item of which I did not want, nor select was in my shopping cart. They had a remove button, but no check boxes to select which item to remove. Also there was no empty cart button or anything of the likes on there site. When I clicked to remove from cart button, I got a page that said that your cart is now empty, ok great I'll just start over, I selected my phone and the two accesories packs that I wanted, then proceeded to check out, there is that item again still in my cart. So I check my internet options to make sure my settings are set to check for newer versions of stored pages every visit to that page(it was). So to make sure I clicked refresh and then retry, sure enough it is still in the shopping cart. After spending the next hour or so trying and retry this order, I decided to go ahead and fill out my order info and click the submit button, as with most online stores after clicking the initial submit link you usually get a confirmation page to confirm that the information you entered is correct. So I thought once I get to the confirmation page they may have some reomve options there. Well, this did not happen, the next page you get after submitting is a Thank you for placing your order with us page and a confirmation number for placing the order and said that I would receive my order within one to two days.(Wow that's fast)
OK,OK now what, I'll just quickly call them up and get this corrected over the phone. So I called Cingular customer service and told them that I had two things to take care, first I need to correct an online order before it gets processed, and secondly I want to see about upgrading our rate plan. I told the rep that We only opted to upgrade one of our phones and that After researching our old phones found that they too were GSM as well, so why wouldn't they work with the new rate plan? I was then told they would work, they would just have to reprogram them in their system for GSM.I was told to just wiat till I get the new phone in and when I call to activate it they would uprage our rate plan then, and that she was putting in a comment to reprogram the other phones for GSM. AHA! now were getting somewhere. The service rep then gave me the phone number for the online store and then connected me direcly to the store to get my order issue resolved. After giving the store rep my order confirmation number and being placed on hold four times, she came back and said that my order was not showing up in the system yet and to call back in a few hours. Here we go again. I waited about an hour and a half to call back, this time they had no problem finding my order, but was told they could not remove anything from my order, but she placed a comment in my order that I did not want the item in question. I asked her, does this mean that the person filling the order will remove it from shipping and credit me for the charges? The reps reply was the same robotic response I just heard. "I placed a comment in your order that you do not want the item in question, and your order won't ship for three to five business days anyway. I said well my confirmation email said that I would receive my order within one to two days. "That is correct sir, once it is shipped you will reiceve it in one to two days. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" AARRGGHH! No not as long as this item is removed from shipping and I am not charged for it. "Thank you sir and have a nice day!" Yea you too...
(The Next Day)
I checked my email and there is an order update in my inbox from Cingular.
Thinking ok they corrected my order and sent me an email to let me know of the correction. (wrong) it is a shipping confirmation email stating that the one and only item that I did not want that kept getting into my shopping cart and wouldn't go away, is the only thing that was shipped period.
No phone nothing else but what never should have been to begin with.
Now then, to get to nitty gritty.
Would I buy online again, Yes of course, but not from Cingular.
In fact I have no reason to even visit their website, I find it much easier to pay my cell phone bill by just simply dialing *pay from any of my cell phones and I am done. In the future should I decide to upgrade phones again,I will walk into a Cingular store and buy one off the shelf much simpler the buying from them online.
Will I keep Cingular for my cell phone service? Yes. Despite this fiasco, in the past when it came to technical issues I haven't had a problem
with and have been pleased with the responses I
have received.
I am also happy with the kind of reception we get in our area.
