Pros: Classy, sporty, solar, pilot features, locking clasp, long lasting glow
Cons: Many features require the use of the crown. Button controls would be better.
The Bottom Line: If you want a great long lasting pilot watch, which is also a great value, this is a good one.

| bryris1's Full Review: Citizen Citizen® Men's Skyhawk Watch 051-3475... |
A few months before I started college, I switched from an old casio digital to my first real watch. It was a Fossil titanium watch. I wore that watch for over four years. It was a good watch and continues to run strong right now. However, I am a watch person. I love them. I had been looking at the Eco-drive watches for a while, but just couldn't get myself to buy one with a perfectly good watch on my arm. Well, after a series of personal triumphs, my entire family decided to go on a cruise for a family reunion, an occasion which hasn't occured in many years. While there, my father decided to buy me the watch I wanted for a Christmas gift. He purchased it for me (I was with him at the time) on the Celebrity Century cruiseship in the middle of the Carribean. It was $223. Not an absolute steal, but a very good deal considering it was not purchased online and was sized for me on the spot.
I am pilot, so I like the functionality of the Skyhawk. In all likelyhood I won't use any of the pilot fuctions. Its easier to pull out an E6-B than it is to twist that little bezel, but if nothing else it is a symbol of my passion. The UTC dial comes in handy. I often forget the correct UTC conversion, so its nice to just look down and know the right zulu time.
Also, switching times zones is a breeze. Most of my flying is in the eastern time zone, so this feature won't be used to much, but its nice to know that when I vacation I can easily switch time zones.
All things equal I would have preferred the Titanium version. My old Fossil was titanium and I liked it. However, some research and experience as shown me that titanium scratches quite easily. The stainless steel is much heavier - makes the watch almost 2X the weight and its specific heat is much higher. So on those cold mornings, it takes a bit for it to warm up to your body temperature. I chose the stainless steel version (It was cheaper too) and I don't regret it at all.
I will be getting married in less than 7 months. I will be wearing a white gold wedding ring, so it'll match the watch better than it would if the watch were titanium gray.
My father has an Eco-drive watch, a much older version, and has worn it continuously for over 7 years with absolutely no problems. So I am confident that mine will last as long, if not longer (I take care of my stuff - just an habit of mine).
This is a great watch, purchased at a good time, in a cool place, at a good price. I am very happy with it, and should be for many years to come.
