Cellular phones these days have more or less become miniature PDA's, gaming systems, and cameras that you can also just happen to use to make a cellular telephone call.
The Nokia 6010 is a wave of tranquility in this technological sea of madness. Why? The Nokia 6010 offers many of the desired features (polyphonic ringtones, messaging services, web access, color screen, games) without the high-tech hoopla to have you turned into knots in a matter of no time.
The Nokia 6010 is a dual-band (meaning it operates on two different frequencies) GSM phone. It is offered by the following major carriers:
Cellular One
AT&T Wireless (now merged with Cingular Wireless)
Cingular Wireless
T-Mobile
This phone also has some very functional features as well. The highlight of this phone is the layout of the menu. It is rare today to find a piece of electronic equipment with ease of use, but the Nokia 6010 achieves that.
Another one that I find most useful is the voice dialing. You can add voice tags to your stored phone numbers so if you have to dial on the go you don't have to be distracted by scrolling through your phone's directory while you're driving or doing something else.
The messaging services are all included... e-mail, text messaging, picture messaging (though there is no built-in or attachable camera), and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM).
The 6010 can be a bit bulky at nearly 4 ounces and 5x2 inches. The plus side of this is that it has easy to use buttons on the face of the phone and a good size color display with a blue backlit screen. According to the manual the display is capable of displaying 4,096 colors!
The phone has many built-in ringtones and is capable of downloading others via the wireless internet. A vibrating alert is also an option for meetings, church, movies, and other places you don't need your phone "chiming" in. Pardon the pun, I couldn't help it.
You can personalize your phone to your taste with a host of built-in color schemes, different face plates, wallpapers, etc.
Personalization & Fun
Like my previous phone this one has a very solid organizational capability. The phone book is capable of holding an overly sufficient 500 contacts with multiple numbers for each one.
The calendar will hold up to 500 entries... a to-do list that will hold up to 30 entries, and even an alarm clock which features a snooze for those of you who use it (you know who you are). The alarm clock will even function when you have the phone turned off to save battery power.
The battery though has shown itself to have a very good battery life. It comes stock with an Extended Li-Ion battery that will allow talk time of up to five and a half hours and a standby time (this being that you do NOTHING on your phone) of ten days. Astounding. There are also other batteries available for purchase as well.
In short, the Nokia 6010 is a solid phone that is easy to use and doesn't have the hassles of some of today's products. The best part? It cost nothing with my contract renewal with my cellular company!
