The Bottom Line Don't let the "Best Buy" be handed to you!!! The price may be great, but, it's a pain in the wallet.
Our family was in dire need of a computer! With a teen in High School, and one up and coming in Elementary, we were desperate... We traveled 100 miles too the nearest shopping town to a Best Buy Store, thinking about what great deals they offer, and everyone we had spoken with highly recommended them. Not really having a huge chunk of change to spend, they recommended an e-machine. My husband and I talked it over, and they showed us all of the things that could be accomplished on such a "Wonderful" piece of equipment. Our children were so excited that we would no longer be living in the stone age. As we made our purchase, the dealer directed us to the service center where we received a Windows upgrade from 98 to Millennium. Still thinking we had such a great deal that we took our purchase home to play. That happened in September of 2000. As I write this, just in this past week, our phone modem has begun to fail, and it seems to be taking the driver along with it. We also did not realize that the CPU having (566 mhz) Intel Celeron Processor, (32 mb) of RAM, (128 kb) L2 cache, (7 1/2 gb) Hard drive, 40X CD ROM, 3D agp graphics chip, 56K modem. Did not have enough of anything to run properly. Realizing now that one of the main issues with this system is #1. This system did not have enough RAM to carry the Millennium. #2. That E-machine itself used cheaply made modems that are very difficult to replace in which to find one that will be compatible with the driver. This system was designed perfectly to run Windows 98. Best Buys was running the Windows upgrade to the Millennium edition on their own. We thought we were getting something fantastic. WRONG!!! The system is constantly locking up while running small tasks. Our children even have trouble playing the CD's on this system. I am at the present time writing my article on this system, even though the modem fails, if I work with it for a while, I can sometimes get it to connect to the Internet, but I have no clue of how long the connection will last... We do not recommend Best Buy, because if they would have left the system with Windows 98, instead of upgrading the system would have been fine. If you choose to make a purchase from Best Buy, please make sure that you have everything you need for your system and not any upgrades that are not done by the factory. We are presently working to get our mistake corrected, and I urge you to learn from us, being screwed by Best Buy... I lost my connection twice while writing my article... |
