Who Needs Free Time? I've Got Flash Cards! - Law School Exam Preparation

In part one of my series on approaching law school exams, I'll show you how law school exam prep is like eating a steak at Peter Luger's. Really.

Outlining is SOOOO essential! (Reply to this comment)

I'd never made a single outline until I got to law school. It's funny- it becomes THE way to study for law exams and I couldn't imagine getting through law school any other way.

Great advice.

P.S. I didn't use flashcards until I studied for the bar- then it was flashcards out the wazoo.

Flash Cards (Reply to this comment)

I am working on my doctorate in Biokinesiology and PT, and used to make flash cards for gross anatomy...very helpful, as I took these cards EVERYWHERE with me! I also agree that "cramming" in grad/professional school is a very poor choice unless you are extremely gifted.

Thanks,
Jennifer

thanks for the explanation, Cate. Although I still disagree about writing off-topic information in general, if epinions placed others such reviews here after restructuring, then I don't see why you can't do so now. I've re-rated accordingly.

Studying! (Reply to this comment)
by CurtisEdmonds
Dang. I KNEW I was forgetting to do something when I was in law school... if I had studied, might have made better grades... I feel stupid. :)

This is all very good advice, people, but I don't know about the studying-with-wine thing. It may be better than what I did, though, which was studying with Dunkin Donuts. (Krispy Kreme hadn't made it to town yet.)

Jennifer --

While I certainly understand how you may have perceived that my essay on Law Exam preparation was inappropriately placed, Epinions places all general graduate school advice under the Should I Go To Grad School? heading (which pools together the Should I Apply to Law School? and Should I Apply to Business School? subtopics). I will refer you to my Socratic Method essay (http://nylawgirl.epinions.com/educ-review-5E02-10B19255-39C4CA72-prod3/tk_~CB003.1.22) and the essays of other members as examples of this -- a placement made by Epinions.com during the restructuring.

And, while I am certainly aware of the limitations posed by vague categories, I don't want to hold back what I feel to be useful information because there isn't an exact category available (for example, advice on succeeding in law school).

I also believe that knowing the time and effort required to succeed in law school and, in turn, the exams will be of use to people who are deciding whether to go to law school.

While I do respect your decision to rate in this way, I must respectfully disagree.

wanted to explain my NH. this is great advice, but the topic is "should i go to grad school," and this great essay will not help anyone decide that. while i agree that the limitations of epinions' categories can be frustrating, i feel i have to rate such off-topic essays NH for the sake of the site's useability to non-members.

sorry!
