The Bottom Line For the time and unconditional love that he gives to his kids...I honor my husband with this review.
I am honoring my husband of 11 years with this review. It is actually more of a small anthology of stories, because he just blows me away with his kindness and generosity, and this is the best way for me to express how special he is. It is the second review I have written in the category because there is just never enough said about what a wonderful dad my husband is. Today, June 16th, it is a very hot day here in New England. My husband umpires a local Babe Ruth League in a local town for some extra money. He is a "patch" umpire which means he went to school to do it, and has his "certificate." He is almost 58 years old, works full time in the auto business, and umpires part time, summers. He loves it. He also had to work more games than he had planned this year, in order for us to pay off some unexpected bills we got recently (things broke down, our son needs braces, etc). So this past week he did 3 double headers. One of them was this morning. He is so tired. Yet at a 2 PM Little League game, his son's game, he umpired...his 3rd game of the day. And he did a magnificent job. The kids love him! They love him on BOTH teams, for when ANY of the kids make a good play, he lets them know. Our son, a boy of few words, is so proud of his dad for standing out as one of the most loved guys around in a sport that he adores. At 9 years old, he brags about his dad being an umpire. His dad deserves it! He does it for the love of his son. Our daughter is 6 1/2. This year I worked until 5:30 working full time as a day care provider. Every Monday she had dance, and every Monday my husband arranged his work schedule so that he could get out early and pick her up from dance (a friend would drive her). He did it because he loves her. He did it so that when she got out of a class, she would get to share her excitement over the next step she learned and the fun she had. Each morning, I am cleaning the house, getting ready for the arrival of up to 5 other children entering my home. My husband gets the kids up, helps them get dressed, makes them breakfast, walks them to the bus stop. When he comes home, as I am preparing dinner, he goes over their homework, gets them showered and cleans the rest of the house. We have had a tough year financially. He kept me sane. He worked everything out, and we are well on our way up again. He paid the bills, helped with the budget, assisted with one of my (many) hobbies of rebating in order to save money. He bought nothing for himself in order for the kids to have a bit more. Our son wanted more than anything else to go to baseball camp. It was $150.00. Little League had a raffle, and the kid who sold the most tickets, got to go to the camp for free. You got it-my wonderful husband hustled and sold the most tickets, bringing them to work everyday and talking to everyone. Our son won, and is going to camp for free. Our daughter just graduated kindergarten. My husband went into work late and stayed late, in order for him not to miss one moment of the great ceremony, and cried when he saw our daughter present her teacher with flowers and introduce a special song that the kids sang for her. I could just go on and on, but these stories stand out. What my husband does for his children is to unconditionally give his time and his love. We have had our problems in the past, but we have a strong love and have always worked everything out. He has shown our children that it is OK to make mistakes, and that it is important to work them out when you love someone deeply--he is a fine example of what a really good man is, so the kids have someone to always look up to. He chose to have a second family with me. He has 2 grown daughters from his first marriage. We decided to have kids together...he was in in his late 40's. We had his first (and only) son, and a (third) daughter. He amazes me with how wonderful he is. I am in love with him for a lot of reasons; but one of the biggest reason is because he such a spectacular dad, to the 2 people I love the most...because we parent so beautifully together and respect each other as parents. He is my partner in many fashions, and one of the most special "partnerships" we share is that of being a parent. In honor of my husband, I write this "review." And to all of the dads out there, I wish you a very, very special Father's Day! |
