The game starts off with our here Crono, you start awaken at his house (he is only a kid, so he lives with his mother). From there you are sent to go to the millennial town fair, to celebrate the first millennium. While you are there you will meet up with a strange girl called Marle one of the main characters. She goes to the time machine exhibit in the fair, in which your nerdy friend Lucca designed a time machine. Marle ends up going through the time portal and you follow her. After that you will start traveling through time and discovering there is something that is going to happen to the world at a specific date. So you must travel through time and do different things and eventually you acquire different people for your group. The characters are Crono, Marle, Lucca, and a frog you meet in the past called Frog. Than when you travel way into the past like prehistoric, millions of years go you meet a warrior chief named Ayla, than way in the future, like 2085 you meet a robot named Robo, and finally in the end you run into Magas, a main magic using guy. So with these people you eventually find out the plot about Lavos and how he will destroy the world. You must stop him from doing that, the interesting thing is when you go to fight him there is about 3 different ways you can fight him.
-Game Play: The main game play is this is like the old Final Fantasy games, you walk a around on a giant map, you of course for most parts arent drawn to scale, unless you enter a specific area, like a town, cave, or a castle. So when you enter those areas you are drawn much more to size, also you can see the enemies represented as characters or if they are objects than as that object. Also since the enemies are drawn on the screen it is possible that they wont attack you if you so wish not to fight in combat. But the main game play is done more though the combat system that is where this game thrives.
A few more things before the combat, for saving the game, if you are on the main map you can save where ever you are, but if you are in a special place like a cave, or castle, than you have to go places called save spots, they will be like a blue star of sorts on the ground and you just walk on them to save the game.
Also later on you will acquire about 7 different characters and you will only have 3 spots open so you will be forced to switch between them, and I recommend you keep all of their levels up, because for certain places, a certain group of characters are better. And you dont want to be forced to use 2 level 10 guys with a level 50 guys.
+The combat system is very nice in this game it is mostly like any other RPG game but they added a lot to it. First off there is 3 things to do when your bar is full at the bottom, you can A) simple attack B) tech attack-explain in a min C) item use. These are the three main things that you can do. The part where this game makes it self, stand above the others is the tech system.
Tech is for a specific person says Marle, she gets has healing and ice spells used through that, which in it self is pretty powerful. But the big addition is you can combine multiple characters tech attacks to make a more powerful one, such as if both Ayla and Robos bars are full you can select tech with either one of them and combine to do an attack, such as where Ayla picks up Robo and throws him at an enemy. These attacks can be combined between up to 3 different characters, but they all must have a full bar to do it. Also the type of tech attack that you can do matters as to which characters are in your group.
Graphics: This game had good graphics, that is for the time that it was out which was at the 16-bit era in gaming. The characters are all 2d, along with the background. This you would thing would make for a pretty poorly graphical game, which I am happy to tell you is not the case. This game could easily be one of the best-drawn games on SNES. It, everything is drawn very well for the 2D 16-bit graphics that this game shows, just think of more squarely drawn people and that is more of a 16 bit graphics, not as many rounded edges, detail isnt very in depth. But this game for what the graphics limit it to still exceeds by looking beautifully, every character is drawn as best as they could be. The graphics for the environment are really realistic despite it; you can believe you are there in the game, and not just looking at it through your TV. The best place where this graphics does stand above other SNES games is in the combat section. Each attack has its own animation, which are drawn beautifully and really make it seem real. The best attack to watch would have to be Cronos Luminaire, which also has the best sound effects. I personally like having the old style graphics compared to some newer ones of today.
Sounds: This game has amazing sound track, possibly the best one I have heard ever. It is mostly more classical piano music, how ever it changes depending on where you are such s if you are in a battle you can expect a more upbeat tune. Conversely if you were just walking around you would expect more of a soothing song. The sound effects of course are nice, as attacks are done accurately and sound good. More of the tech attacks for certain people is where you find better sound effects, such as Cronos Luminaire attack sounds beautiful. As I said this has possibly the best sound track ever, I have some of the songs on my computer because they are so good. I suggest listening to the song when you enter the Millennium Fair that is my favorite
Lastly this is one of my top ten games of all time easily. This game is a classic, if you are into RPGs this game is for you even if you want to try out some older RPGs and get into the genre I suggest this one, the story is amazing and the game play is nearly perfect. The only downfall is the graphics are really out of date, but at times I prefer simpler graphics for games.
Extra Notes:
*Note this game could easily have over 30 hours of game play in it, I dont remember but I can believe I played longer than that before I beat the game.
*This game is a RPG (Role Playing Game)
*Also note if you didnt know it already to save your game in this game you dont need anything special you can save it to the game directly, however you can only save up to 3 games.
