Pros: Lot of nice theoretical features.
Cons: Installed programs take up a lot of drive space
Just doesn't work well
The Bottom Line: Look elsewhere unless you want your kids to add a lot of additional words to their vocabulary they should avoid. Have a bottle of Advil handy- you'll need it.

| technoguy10202's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PSC 2510 Thermal Inkjet Multifunc... |
I purchased this printer at the same time I purchased a new PC system (Compaq aka HP). As I have this computer in my kitchen, I didn't want to place a bulky printer on the counter as well. I thought the idea of wireless capabilities was a good one since I have other computers in my house that could also share this printer via my wireless router/network.
The initial setup wasn't too difficult, though the installed programs take up a large amount of hard drive space (as mentioned by other reviewers). Both my PC and Mac initially were able to "see" this printer on the network. (The Rendezvous features of OSX are awesome in this regard)Scanning to my Mac worked great (allowed me to save pdf copies of all of those damned rebate forms/ UPC labels I had to turn in after buying the PC). Unfortunately seeing it isn't the same as actually communicating with it. The initial printing attempts were excruciatingly slow for anything other than a simple text document. I wasted a bunch of photo paper trying to print a simple 4 x 6 picture. Most often, about half a page would print and then the printer would crash or print out about 50 pages of one or two line gibberish. After a while, my PC could no longer "see" the printer and my network access from my kitchen PC became unstable with frequent sudden inability to access the internet (though sometimes would miraculously reestablish a connection). I uninstalled/reinstalled the software but it did not fix the situation. I still could not "see" the printer even with it directly plugged into my router. After another attempt to uninstall/reinstall, the installer would not completely install the software (though not specifiying why the installation could not be completed). After many frustrating days of dealing with this I gave up and waited for my comupter-guru brother in law to assess the situation at Christmas. After wasting an afternoon (this guy is a serious hardcore computer dude/ chip designer), he finally announced, "I think you should just get another printer." Being a Mac guy, I've heard stories of such frustration from my PC friends. My internet capabilities were pretty erratic by now.
Not to be admit defeat quite yet, I went to the extreme of doing a complete system recovery (the PC is mostly for kids games and internet surfing). Somehow reinstallation of the software worked. I was ecstatic to find out that a simple MS Word document printed from both my Mac and PC. It was short-lived bliss as I found that printing a Mapquest map sent the printer into spasm. About 1/3 of the map printed followed by 20 pages of one to two lines of crap. My internet connection started going on the fritz again from my PC. Finally, I removed the printer from my printer list and my PC breathed a sigh of relief and again began working normally
Don't waste your time on this printer unless your into masochistic PC torture. I think I'll just directly connect this POS into my Mac (still probably won't work)and try to find a compact printer for my kitchen PC that I can stow under the desk or in a cabinet. It kind of figures that a HP product would not work with another HP product.
