The Bottom Line Be sure and use your bat for the balls intended. Don't throw or hit other objects.
No, I am not writing about my mother-in-law. I am a 12-n-under girls softball coach and we have a large selection of softball bats. As long as you use ordinary common sense, your bats should last a long time. We don't allow girls to hit the ground or anything but a softball with there bats. Are bats are all aluminum and even after playing in the mud and rain, all they need is a good cleaning with soap and water. I have heard that you shouldn't use expensive bats on batting cage balls. We use are bats on the ordinary rubber balls that came with are pitching machine. Bats can cost $200 now and I would very careful with these bats and wouldn't loan them to everyone or use on batting cage balls. Many people say that bats go dead after much use. I can't say for sure about that but if you think so, then by all means replace your bat. A few years ago a boy at a little league practice handed me his bat and said, show us how to hit one. Well I felt compelled to try hard and the second one I hit, the ball went back and forth sideways like I'd had never seen before. The boys bat was mashed flat and I felt terrible. The coach said that it was good for the boy and exactly what he needed. So don't loan your bat to over the hill guys trying to show off!! Always wear a helmet and be safety conscious,a bat is a very dangerous thing in the wrong hands. Be sure and play ball with your kids, you'll be glad you did. Always set a good example. |
