| citybean's Full Review: Creative Labs Zen Micro (5 GB) Black MP3 Player |
I've had my Zen Micro now for about a week. I've charged and discharged the removeable battery about 5 times. A charge lasts right around 8 hours, and recharges in about 2 hours. A second battery was not included in my unit. Really cool oscillating blue light while charging - when the lights go out, you're fully charged.
I've got 1119 songs on it, with a little more than 1/2 a gig left to fill. The sound, using the headphones that shipped with it, is great. I would like a little more bass, but that's a minor complaint. I really like the vertical touch pad. I leave it in the default sensitivity mode, it works great. I flashed the ROM as soon as it arrived to make it plug-n-play with Win XP without using the included software - that went smoothly. The Zen showed up as a drive in Windows Explored when I was done.
I use Windows Media Player 10 to sync my Zen, it works great. When I try to register the Zen online, the program can't find the Zen (even though I have it plugged in and it shows up in Windows Explorer). I'm thinking maybe the recently flashed ROM is the culprit. I made one stab at sync Outlook with the Zen that was unsuccessful (again possibly the recent flash). The FM Tuner works great, however, as stated in other reviews I've read, don't use the automatic scanning for stations, just search manually and add them. The automatic scan fills all your presets with static. The voice recording works well and sounds clear. I haven't recorded off the FM radio yet (and I don't plan on it). My Zen has locked up once. It happened during WMA playback. I had to remove the battery to reset it. It hasn't happened since. I've listened to the Zen at work for 8 hours straight and the earbud headphones (which I've never used before) are super comfortable and they stay put.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase. An extra gig of memory and loads of other extras (compared to iPod).
