It shouldn't be just a matter of preference or what's best for the environment but what's best for your baby!

This advice sounds good. I'm trying to figure out which way is best for us. I'll be an at home mother and I recall my brother had allergies to disposables back in the 70s.

A well balanced examination of the hot topic. I discussed this one with a nurse at the hospital when my first daughter was born and she told me that disposables were far more hygenic & better for baby because in most instances they keep baby drier for longer. There is no residue of detergents nor carry over bacteria. Hell, that was good enough for me. I confess, I have been an absolutely 100% disposable nappy type mother ever since.

Well, I like to consider myself someone who is concerned with the environment, but after working in an infant daycare for a year (that's about thirty diapers changed per day) I just thank the gods above for disposables.

The "traditional" mom... (Reply to this comment)

...I wanted to use cloth diapers, I really did! I went out and bought numerous packs of them before my son was born, but after coming home from the hospital with packs of freebie disposables (they do that to sabotage you! just kidding), that was the end of my "cloth-diaper" frenzy. Not that I didnt want to use the cloth ones, but being a new mother and not having a washer/dryer handy, the disposables were much more convenient and realistic for me. Everyone will have their own opinions, but I think you said it best when each person must decide for themselves on what is right for them and their baby.

I have to commend anyone who says that the child's welfare should be first. I think you are 100% right on this-cloth, disposable, whatever....it should be what is best for the baby. Thanks for another great review. I am definitely learning a lot from you.

We got great diapers from the diaper service but it was what they washed them in that made us lean toward disposable. And the fact that they were more convenient added to our decision but the main reasoning was because of the allergic reaction my daughter had to their new detergent.

I personally have no preference but then again, I'm not in diapers anymore either...lol.

Thanks for reading, rating and commenting...it's appreciated.

so I guess the point is that new parents need to at least TRY the cloth out before making a decision to solely use disposable. I used cloth for differing lengths of time on each of my boys & really liked that a lot. Yes, they were more work but it was worth it in more ways than one! I do hope more parents give cloth a try.

PS: The trick is to buy GOOD cloth diapers, not the cheap thin ones sold at Wal Mart.
