Better than the HP I replaced, but not as easy

The Bottom Line: The quality of the prints are excellent, the support is fantastic, it's quiet and fast. For the price it's an excellent value

I bought this printer in Costco 9whole sale club), just in case I wasn't happy.
The Epson unit is by far faster than the HP 900 series I replaced, and the detail is crisper. When you print with it, most people don't know you printed at home. When I first got it, the color saturation was very over amplified, so I gave a call into Epson 800 help line and 20mn later we found out that the drivers needed updating for Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrades. It was a welcoming fix, because I was ready to bring it back.
One thing I'm a bit concerned is that Epson makes it clear that Epson Only photo paper should be used. I tried using Kodak and HP, and the picture quality is off. It's not a big deal, because there are several places on line you can get Epson paper at discounted prices, but it's something to keep in mind.
Lastly, the ink is broken down to 5 colors so you replace what you use more of. In my case I printed well over 250 prints, invitations, wallets and 3.5x5 before I used one full set of $40 cartridges, beside regular document printing. So I would say it economical in that sense.
The only 2 cons I can think of, aren't really a cons, they have to do with maintenance. There is a cleaning feature Epson needs you to run every so often. I've run it twice in 6 months and have avoided any smudges. And the cartridge alignment is very time consuming. it takes about ten minute on average... it's not terrible, but if you want to get the "task" over with you need to do this...the HP's was a lot easier and faster, but it used ink up fast. I would go wit the Epson product next time around again.
