Just my luck one year, Macy’s was advertising diamond stud earrings (1.50 total carats) posted on 14k white gold for $1999. It was part of their Super Buy sale. Originally priced at $5190, the Super Buy was a good buy. I was hesitant about purchasing the earrings since I had never spent that much money before in my life (with the exception of tuition for college and grad school!) There was an additional 15% off of the earrings if I charged it to my Macy’s card. Interesting … With the additional 15% off, the earrings would cost about $1700! (I made sure to pay it off in one payment, otherwise the interest would bury me!) Still a huge chunk of change, but it was much more appealing than the other price quotes, so I purchased the earrings.
What I like about the earrings is that they are very, very simple. Each diamond is about 0.73 carats. The color of the diamonds is I, but the clarity is not so good as it is I1 (inclusions). Though clarity was compromised, the earrings still have a nice sparkle to them. At first, it was difficult for me to put the post through my ear as the screw post is thicker than the “typical” earring post. I do like that it is a screw post as it secures the earrings safely on my ear lobes. After having worn the earrings for a while, the earrings go on and off very easily now as my ears have adjusted to the post. The four prongs that hold the diamonds in place are very secure. I have not had any problems with the prongs loosening. The sparkle of the earrings is quite nice, though when the earrings get dirty from every day grime, they dull out considerably. I clean my earrings every now and then because of the build-up from shampoos, conditioners, and other every day grime. I use a diluted dishwashing soap to clean my earrings. Sometimes it is difficult to get in between the crevices between the diamond and the setting, so I use a miniature brush from a jewelry cleaning solution to do the trick.
The 1.50 total weight diamond stud earrings are a perfect size; they are discrete and elegant. I wear them every day and find that the simplicity of the earrings makes them appropriate for all occasions.
