The Bottom Line Are some of the most trusted members ruining this site? You'd be surprised.
Quite a few people here are worried that Epinions is going downhill fast. Too much abuse on the site, too many people writing shoddy reviews to make some money not caring about the quality of their reviews. People posting the same reviews twice and so on and so forth. Are some of the most trusted members abusing the site? They claim not for they are the foundation of the site. The people who write the spectacular reviews with a web of trust exceeding hundreds of members, how could they possibly be abusing the site? They seem to be running it. (Note: I am not talking about all of the most trusted members, those of you guilty, know who you are) Recently, very recently, I have come across a few opinions that are rants about nothing in particular or a bash session for others who frequent the site. How is that helping anyone except for the person who is getting paid for the hits it produces? It sure isn't helping consumers, it isn't helping members either. It's just turning this community into cliques. I feel like I'm in high school again. This one dislikes this one and adds them to their web of distrust so that one retaliates by writting some opinion on how they are so much better than the person whom they are writting about. (Kind of like I am doing now but not trying to do, if that makes any sense.) Is that not a form of abuse? I don't see any members frantically typing a letter to the help desk. Some feel that we should no longer get paid to write any reviews in the members section. I disagree, if the opinion is on topic, you should get paid for the hits it produces. If they opinion is off topic, it shouldn't be written. If you have a problem with a member, email them or write a comment, I do believe that is what they are there for. If you think about it, the reason Epinions had to cut back on the amount of money you get for each hit probably isn't because people are writting reviews with the same word over and over. You need at least $10 to redeem any money here and the people who write those reviews usually don't make more than a dollar seeing how people filter out the low rated reviews so not a lot of people ever come across it. The people who write off topic reviews just for the sake of bashing someone or ranting because they ran out of ideas for a constructive review is the cause of that. |
