I felt that!

The Bottom Line Epidural relief was the only way for me this time giving birth to my 2nd son. A few side effects afterwards, but nothing Motrin won’t solve.

Ok, up front: I took the epidural. Going in to the hospital I had planned on this (in fact I started asking for it as soon as I got there just so that there would be no mistake about this when time actually came for me to get it. This was my second birth so not too many surprises. Here is my story:

Things are finally getting back to normal around here...I think. I’m feeling ok now---4 weeks and a day later, I just have this tendency to over do it and end up paying for it later on, but my husband---Bill, wildbillm is helping me with that. Sleeping is completely off...no more 2 hours naps for me (unless it's the weekend and Bill's around to help me out).

Let's see if I can sum this up:

Thursday, 12 midnight, May 24th:

Went into hospital for induction. Got that stupid enema (wasn't as bad as I thought it would be), got stabbed with the IV (it hurt really bad!) and got a Cervidil placed in me to soften up my cervix. Was thrown into bed with the tummy monitors. I take my Tylenol allergy sinus because I am still sick from allergies---nasal congestion, blood shot eyes (no contacts for me), sinus headache, general achiness and tiredness from being pregnant.

3 am: I cannot sleep because my back is killing me! I think they give me Tylenol or something so I can get some sleep...

5am: No sleep, back in killing me, plus I still have a huge headache (sinus)and no medication is allowed anymore...starting to feel contractions---oh yeah, so that's what they feel like...nurse checks me and I 'm about 2 cm! ugh!

8am: Ok, still no sleep...back is still killing me and to top it off the contractions are coming hard and fast...can barely breathe in between them...I yell at Bill to wake up and get me some ice chips (oh did I mention
he had slept (and snored!) this entire time...well, ok, except when I woke him up every time I got up to use the bathroom..hee hee! I try watching the Today show as they talk about BBQ ribs (yum!) for Memorial day weekend (yea,
I know how I'll be spending mine!)

8:30am: convince the nurse that I am dying and to please check to see if I can get my epidural yet. I am progressing...3 cm...she calls my dr. and he ok's it!

9am: Got my epidural...no electric shock feeling in my leg this time, piece of cake except for the contractions I get during it...the anesthesiologist is very nice young man (reminded us of Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day off)
and I am just about ready to hug and kiss him after he's done! I also get my catheter since I can't get up anymore.

9-11:30am: I try to sleep...but I keep waking up about every 30 minutes because now that I have my epidural they have to monitor my blood pressure...that thing
squeezes my arm automatically every 30 min...obviously the epidural was not as strong as last time.

11:30 am: ---I give up trying to sleep and watch a Jackie Chan movie (did I mention I have cable?!), I got ticked when I see that a Baby Story is going to be on, but that channel does not seem to be coming in! (Have you ever
seen that? You need to watch it!)

1pm: I think my Dr. pokes his head in to check in on me...my contractions have slowed down...due to the epidural and they start a pitocin drip to get things moving again. I also get my water broken (that's a weird feeling!)
and can't feel a thing (thank God) when I get checked out. One of my best friends stops by to bring Bill some lunch (the hospital cafe hours are really weird and when Bill goes down for breakfast at 10am, they are closed!). I'm not hungry, so I let him stay in the room...however I am ready
to grab his soda! I am so thirsty! I have never had so many ice chips in my life!

2pm: slowly progressing...did I mention we had a surprise visit from someone from our church! This guy (his wife was getting something done at the hospital as well for her hand) really bugs me! Can you imagine the gall!
(does that make any sense?) I mean, who stops in to see someone in labor?!?! It really bugged me. Thank goodness my nurse kicked him out after a while.

2:31pm: This is the time that Joey was born...I thought for sure Brandon would be here quicker...

3pm: I can feel pressure! This is really weird since I did not feel a thing with Joey (my first son, now 2 years old this past February)! I feel like I have to go pee so bad that it hurts! (And it really doesn't hurt, it just feels terribly uncomfortable)

3:30 pm: I buzz the nurse and tell her that I now feel pressure everywhere...like I have to pee/poop and it really hurts!

4pm: this hurts!
4:10 pm: ow
4:11 pm: ow ow
4:12 pm: omg ow! [omg: Oh My God!]
4:13 pm: I'm surprised you didn't hear me
ow-ow-ow---that epidural did not block this pain! I am feeling everything!

4:14 pm: Brandon Alexander Mounsey makes his entrance

4:15 pm: no more pain...yay...we made it!

Well, that's it for now...I didn't tear, breastfeeding sucked for the first week, we have a very aggressive nurser and it hurt like heck, still feeling some pain when I stand or sit for long periods of time, lots of headaches, backaches, and general crabbiness. I got a prescription for Motrin this time and it has been helping.
