This site is just ideal for lazy people like me. We have used FTD.com to send flowers to a number of people, and the beauty of this is flowers and gifts can be sent to folks all over the place. Why? There's probably an FTD-affiliated florist somewhere close to you, and that means you can place an order on the FTD site and pretty much rest assured someone will be close to the person you want to receive your purchased flowers or gifts.
Aunt in the hospital in North Carolina? What could be easier than sending flowers. Niece having a birthday in North Dakota? Why not send some flowers? Indeed, this site makes it easy to send flowers to any location with and FTD-affiliated florist nearby.
As I said, I've used this site quite a bit. The most recent time I used it was just a few hours ago to get my wife some roses. She had complained about the fact I don't send her flowers much these days, so I figured I'd show her. So, I got a dozen roses, a dandy card, a stuffed bear and some candy for her. Throw in an $11.99 service charge, and I figure I'm out of the doghouse for $110. Not bad.
But, that's really the attraction of the FTD site, isn't it? I mean, I haven't met a woman who doesn't like to get flowers, and FTD makes it a breeze to send some. The site is very easy to use and offers a wide array of flowers and gifts for everything from Valentine's Day to a birthday to Mother's Day to those times when you just think it would be nice to send flowers. The site is arranged to you can easily click on your category ("congratulations," "get well" and etc.) and find a suitable arrangement.
I found exactly what I wanted for my wife in about 5 minutes (and, that's been the case just about every time I've used this site), and have a confirmation in hand. I've never had a transaction go bad through FTD.com, and I'm confident they won't let me down on Valentine's Day.
Now, of course, the system isn't perfect. While the Web site is well-organized and FTD is a reliable company, there is a problem in that the florists carrying the flowers to their destination are local. Whether or not an order is successful really comes down to whether or not the local guy charged with delivering the flowers is a reliable sort or not. And, considering how you don't get to choose the florist you want through this system, you kind of take your chances. However, as I said, I haven't had a transaction with FTD.com go sour yet (knock on wood).
I should point out that FTD.com is good at outlining which flowers and gifts are available for quick delivery, but I've never used that feature. I've always ordered things at least a day in advance, and believe that's the best way to approach the site. FTD is a large company, and huge companies generally aren't very good at responding quickly to the needs of customers. Perhaps FTD can guarantee timely delivery, but I prefer not to take my chances.
Also, a $11.99 "service charge" seems a bit high to me, but I'm not inclined to complain about that. I hate going to florists because I never know what I want, exactly, but the FTD site lets me browse through several different arrangements at my leisure and pick the one I want. Also, I don't have to get in my car and go somewhere to pick out flowers. The convenience offered by FTD.com is well worth a paltry $11.99, as far as I'm concerned.
To sum it all up, this site makes purchasing flowers a very simple process. I've used it around 10 times or so for various things, and I haven't had a problem yet. This is exactly the type of thing, in my mind, people meant about a decade ago when they started howling about what a great tool the Internet is.
