Cons: Poor reliability
Gas mileage
Dealer Service
Electrical Problems
The Bottom Line: Would not recommend. Read the expert reviews (Edmunds, Consumer reports, etc) and the consumer reviews (Epinion, etc) and don't make the same mistake that I made.
I've purchased the XC90 for my wife when she was 5 months pregnant. She was driving a 2002 ML320 and did not like the steering and a truck like feel. We should have kept it.
We purchased the XC 90 (2005) about 30 days ago in Pasadena, CA and it has been at the dealer for about 20 days with mechanical problems. The car keeps having problems and problems. The check engine light has gone on 3 times. The first time I brought it back to the dealer, the service manager told me that it "happens all the time". After reassuring that the problem is fixed (4 days at the dealer), the light came on 2 days after I picked it up. Since then, the light has came on 2 more times (reportedly due to 3 independent mechanical/electrical problems). I picked up the car again 3 days ago only to return today as the car was never detailed (grease marks on the pillars}. It has been a night-mare. We decided on a Volvo, thinking that it is a reliable and a safe brand. When I recently did an internet search and read the reviews on the Consumer Report. According to the reviews, XC90 falls short when compared to the competitors. Log on to Consumer reports, edmunds, etc and read it for yourself. I should have done the homework before purchasing this pile of headache.
