Pros: High quality detergent, comes in liquid and powder, smells good.
Cons: Whites dont' come out spotless in cold water.
The Bottom Line: I will use Tide Coldwater just for the energy savings. It does a great job in coldwater with colored clothes and better then average with whites.

Tide Coldwater
I am always up for trying new detergents, as long as I buy Cheer for my mother. I was anxious to see if Tide Coldwater really worked, many detergents claim to work in cold water but some fail miserable.
I decided to test Tide Coldwater on my toughest load. You know the load, all of us who have husbands or children around dread, White Clothes
Almost no detergent I have ever used would clean my husbands white work socks and my grand sons tee shirts, with grape juice and dirt from playing in the sand and mud without using hot water
This would be a tough load for any detergent even in hot water, which is usually what I use with Clorox bleach.
Tide Coldwater package
I bought the 80 fl oz bottle of Tide Coldwater it comes in an attractive blue bottle with an orange cap to measure the liquid detergent. This bottle boasts 20 washings. The front of the bottle has the familiar Tide logo in the yellow and orange circle. Around that logo is blue like water with icicles hanging off the top of the picture. I must say that the picture and bottle get the message over very well, even if you couldnt read you would get the idea.
I bought Tide Coldwater, Fresh Scent; it also comes in Glazier Liquid. As all Tide detergents, it comes in liquid and powder. The Fresh scent comes in 80, 100, 150, 200, 300 oz. The glazier scent does not come in the 300 oz according to the Tide web site.
What are the ingredients.
They never tell you the exact ingredients, trying to keep their product from being copied I would imagine. The Tide Coldwater bottle states: biodegradable surfactants, anionic and nonionic, enzymes.
I know that biodegradable means it will be absorbed into the earth, I looked up surfactants, and this is what I came up with from the www.miraclell.com/chemistry.htm. According to them a surfactant is a surface acting agent or wetting agent.
Now that the ingredients are out of the way, Tide says at there site that I can save 124.00 a year on electricity, they have a energy saving calculator on the site. That is a big savings for me.
Now for the pros
Works in cold water as well as warm.
Saves on electricity the big one.
Smells good
Comes in different sizes
Comes in powder or liquid
Can use with your regular laundry additives.
White Load
I gathered up the dirtiest white clothes I could find to see if the detergent would clean in cold water. I made a full load and then added the correct amount of detergent for large load, to the cap the second line. I added Clorox just like always and then turned the cold water on and let the washer fill, I then added the clothes.
When the washer stopped, I have to say I was impressed with new Tide Coldwater. By no means were my whites spotless, the socks did not come completely clean but most of the others did. The result is that they were cleaner then other detergents I have tried in cold water.
The liquid did a great job on the colored clothes that I washed. I liked the smell of the detergent when the clothes came out of the machine even without fabric softener they smelled good and clean.
With this kind of results, I can still wash my whites in hot water and my colored clothes in cold and still save 83.00 per year, which is good savings. Tide costs about the same as all the other name brand detergents. I have used Cheer in cold water but didnt really like the results, although my mother swears by Cheer. I usually use Gain because I like the smell it left on my clothes. I have decided essentially to try Tide Coldwater and see if it saves as much money as they say it will. Common sense will tell you that using cold water will save you money.
The cleaning difference between Tide Coldwater, Cheer and Gain are noticeable on white clothes with Tide Coldwater, coming out the winner in that category.
