| prione's Full Review: Hotel Marriott St Kitts Royal Resort Frigate Bay |
Let me begin by saying that I travel over 140 days a year. If you are not a big traveler you can get "status" when you stay a certain number of nights with each chain. I am Marriott Platinum (over 75 nights a year)member and a pretty good judge on properties. I should write more of these, but just don't have the time. I am not discounting the other low reviews, but I can say that I am pretty tough when giving out opinions at properties.
The Island:
It is a less developed country than the US. The island is only 65 miles around and about 40k people. Most of the people 98% of them are very friendly and helpful. I went around the entire island in the five days I was there and felt very welcomed. Much more so than Bahamas. The island does add a 10% service charge on meals but that is really the TIP. In most islands it is 18% so be glad it is cheaper than even here. It is surreal with the mountains, beaches, and ocean that come together like a painting.
The Hotel:
This is a new property so everything is new and clean. The lobby is open to the ocean breezes and is very refreshing. There are several restuarants on the property to choose from and most are what you would expect from any hotel. Hotel food is usually 20% more expensive and 31% less tasty than off-site restaurants. Well, in St. Kitts there are not a lot of off-site places to go. If you want a casino, the property has that and it is small compared to Vegas, but large enough for there. The island is pretty laid back so you will not find clubs and such off property. The hotel does have a night club if you are into that scene.
The Room:
There is the main hotel and then there are buildings closer to the beach that hold rooms. We had a one bedroom suite in one of those buildings. Our room was large (about 1,400 SF) but it was a little weird in the way it is built. We had a bedroom that had 2 phones, TV, and bed. There was a separate wash area/dressing area, The bathroom had tile, big tub, bide, but had a shower that was plastic. Kind of what you would expect in an RV. It was strange because we had granite counter tops and cheap stuff mixed in. We also had a living room with another TV and balcony that overlooked the ocean. I recommend the 3rd floor (we had 2nd) because the Palm trees blocked our views. Never had room service.
Cost:
The weather is the same year round 80F but the summer is a lot cheaper. Our room was $675US a night in January, but would be over half off in the summer. If you are flexible I recommend waiting. Hope this helps.
Overall:
There were a few employees that were not extremly friendly, but all would do what you ask. You have to remember that there is a difference between "island time" (which means slow) and unfriendly. Some of these people have never even been to a restuarant before. Not making excuses for them, but most of them really try. I don't get upset if someone tries. I am sure it will get better with time but I for one will go back again.
