| xyzwyatt's Full Review: Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner |
Cerama Bryte is a cleaner that is marketed for glass cooktops and can also be used in a variety of other ways in the kitchen and the bathroom.
I think this is the most expensive cleaner that I have ever purchased. I searched for this for a couple of months and finally ran across it on a display at the Home Depot. It was a large 28 oz. bottle for $9.00. Honestly if my mom hadnt raved about it so much I would have passed it up. I really didnt have an alternative plan and knew I wouldnt find it anywhere else so I purchased it. Six months have passed since I purchased it and I still have a nearly full bottle of it not because I haven't used it a lot but because a little goes a long way.
I was very careful with my glasstop stove initially so it never really got dirty and dish soap did the job. Eventually the newness wore off and it became just a stove and suddenly there were black burn rings on my beautiful glass that didnt just wash off.
Out came the bottle of $9.00 bottle of Cerama Bryte that I was saving since it was so expensive. The bottle is easy to identify when it is on the shelf with other cleaning supplies because it has a yellow cap (to represent lemon I suppose) and the neck tapers toward the top. Shake the bottle before use and then flip the yellow cap up and let a little drizzle out onto the glasstop or onto a rag if cleaning something else. The product is bright white and is thicker than water but still drizzles out with ease. The product cleans while its wet and you move it in a circular motion. If you wait and let it dry it makes it more difficult.
When I clean my glasstop I usually have to use two or three applications because I go over it until the paper towel comes up clean. It doesnt take long and the more frequently you use it the easier it is to clean. The maker of this product also sells a scraper to accompany the cleaner. As far as Im concerned, thats just something else to store and find so I just use a paper towel so I can just throw it away when Im done. After cleaning I buff it with a dry cloth to remove any residue.
The product says that it is safe on all smoothtops and is effective at cleaning things such as stainless steel, faux marble, glass, porcelain, and fiberglass. It is magical on lifting deposits which I find a lot of times from our hard water. The bottle does not mention anything that it should not be used for. It also does not say what it is made out of so its hard to say what to keep it away from or if it kills germs. I really just use this as a polish rather than a cleaner. It does say that it contains citric acid which may be an eye irritant.
Eventually I started experimenting with this product. We had a dry erase board for my sons room that we finally got around to hanging up. Someone had used a non-erasable marker on the white board by mistake. Nothing that we tried removed the mark until I tried Cerama Bryte. It took a little rubbing but it came completely off without harming the board and my son was dazzled. He commented that the smell made his room smell good.
The next experiment was in the bathroom. We had some guest coming and I ended up waiting too long to do the bathroom and I didnt want it to smell like I just cleaned it to imply that I dont clean unless someone is coming. Typically when I clean the bathroom shower stall I use Tilex and it smells like cleaner for about 3 days and the chemicals darn near gag you every time you go in. After staring at my chemical choices I decided that Cerama Bryte had the least fumes and was marketed for bathroom duty anyway so I put it to the test. There were crud deposits around the sink faucets that are darn near impossible to get off. I have tried every single thing in the past and nothing really worked successfully. I put a little drizzle of Cerama Bryte and scooted it around with a rag and it came right off without effort. I was very impressed and thrilled to find a product that I already had to deal with that task. Another benefit is that you don't have to leave it sit for 15 minutes and come back to see if it worked or if you have to start the process over again.
I proceeded with my shower stall and found that it quickly removed the soap scum. It cleaned the marble ledge and the silver trim for the doors and even the silver for the shower and handle sparkled like new. After putting this all over the bathroom it smelled like a lemon but didnt worry too much because it is sure more welcoming than Tilex is. I re-entered the bathroom 2 hours later and the smell was gone.
Not only did my bathroom not smell like chemicals, my hands didnt either! Just washing my hands with soap and water took the smell completely away.
My only complaint about the product is that its expensive and hard to find. It does a fantastic job at cleaning the glasstop on the stove. If using the product exclusively on the stove it should last a very long time. If you have the need to clean deposits elsewhere in your kitchen or bathroom Im sure youll find that it works better than all-purpose cleaners.
The product is only sold at the Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, Do It Best Hardware, and Sears Service Centers. The cleaner and a variety of scrapers that work along with the product can also be ordered directly from the manufacturer by calling 1-800-578-HOME or visiting their website at www.ceramabryte.com.
