| LILvoyce's Full Review: Brillo Scrub 'n Toss |
Ever since my Maytag died, I have been trying to come up with clever ways of cleaning my kitchen. I have not been happy with any of the dishwashers I have seen out there. I suppose I will be handwashing until I find something that suits my needs. I also am trying to find quicker ways of getting out of the kitchen when I have to do my general cleaning.
Where to Find and Pricing
I found the Brillo Scrub'n'Toss at my Local Walmart store. They were in the cleaning section, and were advertised for a bit under $3.
Why I chose Brillo Scrub 'n' Toss
I thought I would try them because sometimes I want more than a dishcloth to clean larger appliances. With have two children, and a variety of pets in the home, sometimes I need a bit more to help me with my general cleaning, that either the dishcloth will not pick up, or would take to long to scrub.
Description of Packaging
I don't mind that this product comes in such a flimsy light plastic packaging. Why make such a fuss over packaging? I wish many other products would come in packaging as light as this one. I would make bringing groceries in much easier, because everything would be a bit lighter.
The tub that contain these Brillo Scrub 'n' Toss Cleansing pads is clear, with a blue lid that is very easy to snap on and off. A red plastic cover with the logo on it just slips right off. It is ever so easy to open these packages.
Each pack comes with Ten Cleaning Pads.
Description of the Cleaning Pads
Each hand held square cleaning pad comes with a blue rough plastic side. The blue side is perfect for me to use on the tougher stains and dried on food splatters in my kitchen. The blue side almost feels like sand paper. The opposite, white side is ever so soft with sort of a waffle design. It is much smoother and softer, with indentations between the design.
How Does this Product Work?
The Brillo Scrub 'n' Toss works by working with your favorite detergent, or dish soap. I like to rinse one of the cleaning cloths first and dab a bit of dish soap on the blue end. I will then use this to clean all of the appliances large and small in my kitchen. It works great on my fridge. Being that these cloths are very flexible, they seem to get into the grooves of my fridge much better. My fridge and many other appliances are not smooth, so it is nice to have the extra cleansing friction that my normal dishcloth will not perform. After scrubbing, I will rinse the cloth, and then use the white waffle side to pick up any soap residue, and food product that did not stay on the blue side.
What I liked about this Product
I like the fact that I can use these pads, and then toss them after each use. Sometimes I am able to get a few light uses out of each cloth before I have to discard. They seem to be more sanitary, if you wash a bit and then replace often. They are thin enough to get into spots that I have a hard time getting into with a dishcloth.
I do not care for steel wool cleansing pads AT ALL. Anything is better than using those. These Scrub 'n'Toss Pads are much more gentle on my hands, and nails. They are not as strong as steel wool pads, but if you take the time to clean as you cook, or mess then you should not need much more than these types of plastic scratch pads that often.
I also enjoy using this this product to help me clean my counters. I do use bleach when cleaning my counters. The white pads give an ever so slight advantage of holding the bleach, and moving it around a bit more than a plain plastic scrub without the waffle white side.
This product packaging is very tiny and small. It does not take up much room under my sink. It is not a bother at all.
I have used these pads to clean my dishes, silverware and a few of my not stick pans. I have not experienced any problems or complaints with scratching.
What I did not like about this Product
I think that the pricing is a bit higher than what I am willing to pay. I think that Brillo Scrub 'n' Toss should include 50% more for the price that I paid for this container. With having a family, that do make messes, I need much more than what is in this box to supply me for a month. I am not willing to pay that much again, unless maybe I were in the middle of holiday cooking, and just wanted something around for convenience.
I find it much easier if I fold these cloths in fourths, or half, so that I can get a stronger grip on the cloth while doing more active scrubbing. This did not bother me as much as how I felt about the cloth after rinsing. I have noticed that sometimes after doing scrubbing, I can not get these cloths rinsed off as well as I would like. Food product tends to stick on the blue side, and is not easy to rinse like it is on the white side. As with other types of plastic scratch pads, this is normal. It really isn't a huge deal. I can just toss it.
Claims
On the packaging there are directions mentioning that the blue lid on top doubles as a place you can hold your wet already used cloth, while keeping the rest dry. I could really care less about this. I would rather have a few more pads included. This feature of the lid, did not influence my purchase at all.
This product does have a small warning on the package concerning the use of bleach. They ask that you really rinse these cloths off well. They also mention about testing an area before using the rougher blue side to make sure you will not scratch the item you are scrubbing. I have never had a problem with them scratching anything.
Claims you can clean:
"Nonstick Cookware, Appliances, Counter Tops, Glassware, Ceramic Cook Tops, China and Crystal, Glass Stove Tops, Dishes and Bakeware, Tubs and Tile Soap Scum, BBQ Grills, Tires and Wheels, Car Windshields."
I only use mine for appliances, and counter tops, and dishes.
Overall?
I am going to say they are average. If there were more in a package for the same money I would give it a higher rating. It is just not as cost effective as I would like them to be. Your paying for the convenience of wash and toss, more than anything else. This product does what it promises, so therefore I would recommend. It is just not my favorite or most economical way for my family.
