My Current Top 10 RENTALS.Jun 25 '01 (Updated Jun 27 '01) Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I know it's a list from 1-10, but I basically ordered them however they popped into my mind. So it's a loosely based rating on my part. This is about films I wouldn't mind seeing again, and that I would consider renting and/or buying. 1-*Oh Brother Where Art Thou?* This is a comedy by the Cohen brothers, the same guys who brought us Fargo and Raising Arizona. I would definitely rank this as their best movie. It is based on Homer's Odyssey. The unexpected humor was the best. I was laughing so much, and I didn't expect to be; I suppose because I've never thought of George Clooney as a comedian. He did a surprisingly great job, and it was a great movie. 2- Anything by Kevin Smith (http://www.viewaskew.com). (Dogma being the last choice, though!) 3- *Charlie's Angels* A cute little chick flick that will appeal to guys too. 4- Anything by Quentin Tarantino. 5- *Fight Club* There's some wonderfully dark humor in this. 6- *The Matrix* It's just a great sci-fi flick. So quotable, too. 7- Either Austin Powers movies. Or both! 8- Modern remakes of classics (see O Brother Where Art Thou above) such as: Romeo and Juliet; also movies like Shakespeare in Love. 9- *Better Off Dead* This is not only funny, I will forever associate it with having a good time with my father. He and I sat up when I was very very young, and watched it on cable together. I thought it was just the coolest, most awesome thing, probably because he let me have a beer while we watched. I totally hero-worshipped my dad at moments like those. The movie is good though, sentimentality aside. 10- *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* A kick-*ss movie (yeah, I can't resist puns sometimes.) Be ready to read like a mofo, though. If you're not in the mood to scan subtitles, save it until you are. Don't miss it though, it is awesome. Bonus: stuff that needs to go into the list but I ran out of numbers: *anything by Monty Python. *Friday, which is just hilarious. |
