Within the last month I returned a week-old Hoover Windtunnel that had little issues that drove me crazy and purchased this Eureka Boss Vac.
I have two cats and a dog, two school-age children, and a moderately hairy husband. I figured I was due a new vacuum, my previous Hoover was at least fifteen years old. I was looking for power, power, power.
This vacuum has such powerful suction, I'm amazed. My carpet looks great and I love the frequent sounds of little bits of this and that getting sucked up through the intake pipes; the sounds of victory to me. The suction is so powerful that you have to have a plan for your throw rugs, but I can work around that. I've developed a method. I've never had a vacuum that allowed me to adjust the suction for throw rugs, so I raise the carpet level a bit so that the suction mechanism isn't so close to the rug...it works out alright for me.
The suction via the wand is great also, almost too great. I have to hold my upholstered pillows and smaller cushions down now when I vacuum or they just glom right onto the tool...but again, this shows me that this machine is working like none other that I've ever owned. This machine is also easy to push; it almost seemed self-propelled at times.
I love the clear hoses, intake pipes, and the clear casing over the brush mechanism. I know this will come in handy in my house of plastic soldiers, errant lip glosses, and cat toys.
Other than the suction, I am amazed at the low level of noise during the operation of this vacuum. All that power and it's not as loud as most vacuums I've heard.
One thing that worried me at first was the weight. It's not horribly heavy, but it's heavier than I'd like. I have made good use of the carrying handle which works well and makes it easy to carry up and down the steps. If I vacuumed every day, this would be an issue for me, but for a couple of times a week, this is well worth it.
The foot pedal is a bit stiff and oddly shaped but with practice, it's getting easier to work and I think I've finally gotten the upholstery tool into its slot properly...it seemed to fall out easily at first.
I like it more each time I use it. It makes my carpets look great and that makes my whole house look good. I don't like vacuuming so a job well done makes it easier to bear. I'm very pleased with this vacuum.
