After spending too much money on standard replacement cartridges, I decided to take the plunge on a refill kit.
Whats Included:
The kit comes with a cylinder each of black, yellow, green, and red. You get one screwdriver to remove the cartridge cap. You also receive three needles (one for each color), a plastic mould the cartridge sits in, a needle less syringe, and a pair of plastic gloves.
Instructions:
First, I recommend you put some newspaper or an old towel on your nice dining room table. That is unless you enjoy sleeping in the doghouse for the rest of the week.
Second, put your hands inside the plastic gloves. Well you can skip this step if you want to impersonate a house painter.
Third, pry off the cap of the cartridge. For those of you not used to working with tools, be careful because those gloves are slippery.
Fourth, install a clean needle on one of the color tubes. Install the plastic screw on the bottom of the tube and remove the plastic needle cap. For those of you not used to working with needles, be careful because those gloves are slippery.
Fifth, the color cartridge has three holes for red, yellow, or green. Follow the instructions to fill each slot with the correct color. The black cartridge just has the one opening.
Sixth, insert the needless syringe in the hole at the bottom of the plastic mould that holds the cartridge. Pull out the plunger until you see ink coming out. This removes any air that was trapped inside.
Last step, put your cartridges back in your printer and spend a couple of minutes washing out the needles and other accessories.
Cost Savings:
I found that this kit would refill both cartridges three times. With cartridges running $25 for black and $32 for color you will save around $150.00 to refill your existing cartridges instead of buying new ones.
Performance:
My refilled cartridges print at the same quality as new ones. However, when I first refilled the color cartridge, it didn't work. I figured I had let the thing dry out because I could not get any ink to come out when I inserted the needle less syringe during the last step. But, the next day it printed like it was brand new.
