Why a $20 camera is better than a $1000+ camera

The Bottom Line Digital cameras are cool and 'hip', but if you want to just have prints in your hand buy a nice and cheap 35mm camera.

What sort of camera is all the rage these days? Colour? How old are you?! Polaroid? Get with it! That was two decades ago! No. The camera that everyone wants now is digital. A digital camera is a special sort of camera which are perfect for computers. And they're fine. To a point.

The major flaw that digital cameras have is quality of image. Even the most expensive digital camera (currently) makes worse pictures than the cheapest, nastiest 35mm camera. They will get better, however. But why would you want one if they're so bad? The answer to that is simple. Most digital camera buffs don't want to have a print of their picture. They want to keep it in a digital form too - by either keeping it locally on their hard drive or by putting it on a web site. You could just take the pictures on an ordinary camera and scan them in - but that takes more time and costs money for developing.

Cheap point-and-shoot cameras are ideal for most people. They are cheap, and take good pictures every time. Buy film, put in camera, develop, and admire!

A word of warning though - don't buy a 110 film camera. Those cameras are quickly becoming obsolete and will be useless in a few years as film will not be made in 110 form. The film is more expensive too, and is harder to find, but any good camera shop will have a supply.
