I purchased a 2004 ford escape in hopes of converting my expanding family from a car to a small SUV, unfortunately, I picked the wrong brand vehicle to make this a smooth transition.
I am fearful of driving at higher speeds due to the steering problems I have encountered, it only had 9,000 miles and was in the shop twice for the same steering problem (the wheel either 'froze' and was very hard to turn or it 'slipped' and it felt as if you were on ice.)
Basically, at every 3 month oil change I take it in to the dealer and have them fix all the 'accumulated' problems. Whether it has been the steering or the rear wiper or the passenger side door difficult to shut, or the driver side door not locking properly (I clicked the inside lock, didn't lock it, I clicked the keyless entry pad, didn't lock it, so I had to manually push the lock shut--not reliable.) When I lift the handle for the back hatch, you have to manually lift the hatch...I would have thought that the hatch would be engineered to slowly lift on its own...who knows maybe mine is defective, I wouldn't doubt it... Also, My brakes started squeaking today, I only have 17,500 miles on the vehicle and my CD player was ejecting the cd's for no reason (6 disc player) that was fun.... I am disappointed that I still have 2 years left on my lease, I just can't wait to see what the next problems will be :-(
