Used cars sometimes NOT a good deal (Reply to this comment)
by big_guy571
Used cars can only be a good deal if you buy directly from the previous owner.
If you get it from a car lot you will end up paying just as much as you would for a new one in many cases.

Excellent Advice! (Reply to this comment)

One thing I especially agree with is your attitude about having a little fun sometimes--one lunch out a week, not skimping on suits, etc. Prudence and/or frugality can provide a real sense of accomplishment if you are enjoying your life, but it's more like a prison if you feel you're deprived of everything.

One exception I have with your epinion: I've found and EXCELLENT store brand dog food. Wal-Mart has a new kind out that they call "Maximum Nutrition." It comes in a metallic bag, and it's their answer to Purina ONE. Its main ingredients are the lamb and rice or chicken and rice (whichever one you choose) and my very sensitive dog has thrived on it. It's $2-3 per bag cheaper than the Purina ONE (which I think is a good deal, anyway) and over $10 per bag cheaper than the Nutro-Maxx that we'd been feeding them. We have two good sized dogs who go through a 40-lb bag in three weeks to a month and the cheaper cost makes a difference in our budget. I encourage you to get a little bag and see if your pooch likes it!

Financial Planning... (Reply to this comment)

This is some very good advice on ways to save money. One thing that I would suggest is to actually see a financial planner. You wouldn't think it would do all that much good, but it has done tremendous amounts for me. They will make sure that you understand what is going on, which is also a big help.
