Tripods: three legged race

Once you start using a tripod, you'll feel lost without one and future flexibility is important to consider in your purchase. Without emptying your bank account, of course.

Thank you for your comments, Milky. I have added the reasons I find a tripod useful to my review.

However, it was never my intent to compare the quality of different manufacturers. That is what other reviews of individual tripods are for. The purpose of this review is to help casual photographers choose their tripod by looking for the right features. Obviously an experienced or professional photographer would not find this review helpful. I am not familiar with any of the manufacturers you mentioned, and personally I don't think that's relevant. It's a tripod, not a car.

FYI, my wife and I purchased a Velbon tripod and we paid $70 Canadian (say $45 US).

Not Enough Info (Reply to this comment)
by MILKYTHECOW233
This epinion did not contain enough information, simple as that. It didn't mention any of the different brands, i.e. Slik, Bogen, Cullman etc., and how they compare. It didn't explain why a tripod will be useful, it just simply states that "I won't be able to live without it." Why? Maybe it should have included what different types for each individual; whether that person is an serious amateur, a pro, or just a newbie. It didn't give examples for price ranges, it didn't give a certain model that is a good value. Heck, it didn't even say what McGuyver, or however it's spelled, bought and how much he paid. When I get a tripod, I will write an epinion that will actually be helpful to the ordinary consumer.

Thanks for the tip, I will revise the review. I am not into professional photography at all so the titanium tripods were a little out of my price range. And to be honest, aluminum will do just fine most most casual shutterbugs.

More advance information (Reply to this comment)

I fell this article requires information about more advance Trip-pod choices.

For example, I would NEVER buy a tri-pod with out quick release. While my father just purchased a titianium (DROOL) trip-pod
