Would you like me better if my name were pornstar?

The Bottom Line Don't use your real name as your user name.

Oh how I wish I could go back to the day I first registered at Epinions. If I could go back I would make my username "pornstar" or "sexkitten" or something with the word monkey in it. Because then, then people would like me. And when they saw my name on their review page amongst the other reviewers, they would click on my name because they would be curious and think, just who is this "pornstar" anyway?

And when this person (most likely a guy) went to my profile page, he would see a photo of me in a bikini. Then he would add me to his WOT because he'd think that by trusting me I would take notice of who he is, and maybe I would initiate contact with him. And then this poor lonely soul (with no picture on his page) would find comfort in the fact that this hot chick had taken an interest in him. And his ego would be boosted by this new "relationship", which in fact is a total illusion because no matter how many comments we leave on each other's reviews, there's no chance in heck that we're ever going to meet.

This trend would continue until my WOT grew to 150 people, though I had written only 25 reviews.

But alas, my screen name is not "pornstar" or "sexkitten." It's "cassieholman." And the picture on my profile page is not me wearing a bikini. It's me wearing a plain black shirt and posing not the least bit seductively. So when people see my name on their review, even though I rated it a "VH," they don't bother checking out any of my reviews because they think, "Man, if she couldn't think of a better screen name than that, imagine how boring her reviews must be." And so my reviews go unread. Sigh.

This is my fate. I registered at the Epinions site too quickly, thinking only of the free money, not bothering to consider the community of members with creative and catchy screen names who would forever chastise me for not taking a few minutes longer to come up with a more alluring title.

Because the sad truth is that when I see the list of people who have rated my epinion, if there's a "johnmartin" and a "sexystud," I usually click on the "sexystud." Sad, sad world.

So do me a favor. Pretend my name is "sexkitten" and that I have huge boobs and go read my reviews.
