| slipKnot4382's Full Review: DocuPrint M750 Printer |
When I was looking for a new printer, I needed something fast, reliable, and cheap. Image quality in a printer wasn't a top priority of mine, but it couldn't hurt. Using Hewlett Packard printers in the past, I decided to investigate what new HP models were available.
None of them interested me. Many models were either too expensive or just too damn fancy. I wasn't overly impressed with past HP models of mine, now that I think of it-poor dpi (dots per inch) and streaks in black text were commonplace. Whether I had a couple defective HPs or not, I wasn't willing to take another chance with them. I needed something different. And cheap.
The Xerox DocuPrint M750 exactly fit my requirements, if not exceeded them. For a hundred bucks, this is a damn good printer. 1200x1200 dpi definitely shows in color prints.
Some key features:
-Draft, eXpress, Normal, and Best printer quality settings
-1200x1200 dpi
-True, vibrant colors
-3 separate ink cartridge slots (magenta, cyan and yellow)
-On screen display showing ink levels, warnings, etc.
-Enclosed paper tray
-Inexpensive
-Brilliant, photographic quality color printouts on glossy paper
I mainly use the "eXpress" mode when printing out word documents or excel spreadsheets. It is a bit slower than Draft mode, but the quality is much higher and it uses the same amount of ink as Draft mode. Don't ask me how they do it. It takes roughly 17 seconds from when i click print until printer has fully completed printing.
"Draft" mode is convenient and fast. Color printouts in draft mode aren't impressive, but when you're on the go (like when I finish essays just before school starts), it's the fastest way to print out black and white documents. If it's readable, who really cares? One black and white draft printout takes roughly 8-10 seconds, again, from the moment I click the mouse.
I use "Normal" mode most often when printing out color pictures. I couldn't ask for any better. Colors are bright, full, clear and crisp. No streaks are evident, and the 1200x1200 dpi really shows. Print times average about 20 seconds.
"Best" image quality printouts are simply astounding. I printed out a large 400K image on glossy paper, and although it took well over 5 minutes to fully be completed, it looked awesome. Everything was extremely sharp, just as it was on my monitor. If someone were to print out that same picture had I not known of the DocuPrint M750, I would recognize it as being professionally printed out on a color laser printer. I just can't get over how such an inexpensive inkjet printer could squeeze out so much life onto a piece of paper.
This isn't exactly a quiet printer-it shakes around a bit and makes weird mechanical noises. It goes through this routine of cleaning itself before and after printing, like any other printer. Except most printers don't sound like they're singing to you when they go through such a process.
I was a bit disappointed with printing speeds. I haven't been able to print out a full, text enriched sheet in draft mode in as little as 6 seconds, according to Xerox claims. I don't know, it could take longer due to the fact that I have a rather old computer-133MHz. My computer may take extra time to send information to the printer. But in the past, I recall of being on par with printout times for other printers.
Overall, the Xerox DocuPrint M750 is a must buy for the people out there on a budget. It offers professional-grade color printouts that other printers in its price category can only dream of. Nice job, Xerox.
