There may have been mention of it, but truth be told I haven't read anything about it. I'm *thinking* it may have to do with her major label jump...but I could also be completely over emphasizing it.
In any case, it's a good album.

... the only songs I have heard from her have been covers (both Difranco's and the Crosby, Stills, and Nash remake - which I still kinda like).
Has there been any mention of the choice of her title, Surrender Dorothy? I only ask because I have always been a huge Wizard of Oz fan as well as recently reading the same titled book by Meg Wolitzer?

Glad you like it too, Mike. It's certainly an imperfect but pleasant surprise.

I think Alana is awesome. "Fortune Cookies" was a work of genius that I still pop in the CD changer periodically four years after it's release. I picked up "Surrender" on Friday, and it sounds solid, although it is a (very) slight letdown from "Cookies".
And, man, what a voice!!
Nice job Shelly--

Fair enough, including the chiding of the PAINFULLY boring Ms. Naess. Yes. I agree on that one (though not this one, but 'tis okay).

I saw Ms. Davis a couple years ago opening for Five for Fighting (and having never heard of her or her cover of "32 Flavors", believe it or not). She was performing solo on acoustic guitar, and eh- after awhile it just all sounded the same. I'd made up my mind that she's just one of those really boring strumming-girl artists (Leona Naess, can you hear me?).
At any rate, I love the title of this album, and I might just be checking the bargain bins for it in the future, but for now, I'll pass.

two or three albums, and then some (Reply to this comment)

I'm pleased that someone made the effort of figuring out "who _is_ this girl covering Ani DiFranco". And since the someone wasn't me, i'm glad it was you, and that you reported back. Ms. Davis sounds worthwhile; perhaps i'll track her music down.
cheers,
- Brian
