We rarely go out to a restaurant for pizza however NYPD is an exception. We went there nearly every week at the Metrowest location because they always ran a Tuesday night special. The special does not apply to carry out or delivery so to get the special you have to dine in their restaurant. Their pizzas are typically fairly expensive so the buy one get one free special made the price irresistible for us. Pizzas range in price depending on size and toppings. The deluxe large pizza that we order is $13.99 each.
The brick oven pizzas are more of a gourmet type of pizza. We have tried every pizza on the menu and found them all to be sensational.
The Queens Deluxe is THE award-winning pizza and also happens to be our favorite as well. It has sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, homemade sauce and mozzarella cheese.
The Mariano is another one of my favorites which has olive oil, fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil and mozzarella cheese.
There are other interesting combos that we also enjoyed such as Da' Bronx BBQ Chicken featuring BBQ sauce and grilled chicken, The NYPD Bleu which has chicken, wing sauce, and dressing. These may sound odd but they are indeed mouthwatering.
We would also eat there a lot on the weekends during the lunch hour. They have a great selection on their menu. There are warm sandwiches such as Reuben, Philly cheese Steak, Italian Combo, and Parmigian. We have tried every one of those and they were all average quality or higher.
There are also calzones, stromboli, and rolls on the menu. My favorite one in this section is the Vice Squad Veggie Roll which has spinach, tomato, mushroom, zucchini, yellow squash and mozzarella cheese.
There is a large selection of pasta dishes such as ziti, ravioli, lasagna, and spaghetti. I havent tried anything from this part of the menu.
The food is really good and the portions are very large. We usually have leftovers to bring home. This is one of the restaurants that we take our out-of-town guests. Weve eaten many pizzas there and they were all above average. The environment is quiet enough to have a conversation while waiting for the food to arrive.
The inside has a police theme to it from the titles of their menu items to the pictures on the wall. We have not been to the downtown location but the Metrowest location is very small. There is a large area on the outside patio which we sometimes prefer to eat on nice evenings because its a little crowded inside.
You can see the cooking area from the seating area so you can make sure you dough doesnt hit the floor while theyre throwing into the air. It is always clean in their working area as well as the rest of the restaurant.
Aside from the great food, we also enjoy going there because they have a good group of employees both in the kitchen and serving so we always know that we can expect great service. Our order has never been wrong and our drink has never been empty.
The atmosphere is very casual. The employees are dressed casually in pants and a NYPD T-shirt. There is an assortment of people who come to dine. There is always a mixture of couples, families, and the over 50 couples. T-shirt and shorts are acceptable.
A minor issue that I have is the parking lot is tiny. Theres rarely a place to park and the spaces are tight.
The biggest complaint that I have about the restaurant is that the wait for the pizza is very long. The pizzas are not prepared ahead of time so takes longer than fast-food pizza. We usually arrive hungry so we order Bread Knots, Fried Ravioli, or Mozzarella sticks to tide us over while we wait.
