Pros:Awesome Graphics Motion Capture, Realistic Atmosphere, Real WC99 Uniforms, Good presentation
Cons:Eats memory, Few Modes, Poor Batting System, Without patch the game is full of bugs
The Bottom Line: Cricket World Cup '99 is all in all a decent title for cricket fans!

Well, it's been about a year since Cricket World Cup 99 was released. Well, not many complaints.. The game is a great game. There are 12 teams with the real rosters, etc. The original release was sort of a mock-up of a game but once EA developed a patch for the game, the game was excellent. The commentary is done by Richie Benaud and very nicely I might add. There is also some colour commentary from David Gower.

The graphics in this game are AMAZING. The motion captured dives, slides, bowling actions and batting strokes, etc are great fun to watch and the players are very well textured and detailed. Players wear sunglasses and hats when it is hot and their names are visible on the back of the shirts. The uniforms are the same as that of the world cup and the instant-replay camera is great. The graphics are great if you have a 3D card and about 4 to 8 MB Video Memory. Otherwise, they are okay in general but are pathetic compared to the graphics when a 3D card is present.

The sound department is also quite good but not great. The commentary is a nice touch but it is not as fluent as Brian Lara's cricket. Most of Richie Benaud's lines were copied from the prequel of Cricket World Cup 99, Cricket 97. Each team has a different call for each run. For example, Australians will say, 'Come on!', 'Yes another!' and other teams will say something different. Actually, many teams say the same thing, but the accents are different. The crowd is okay but they never shout too much. Average sound.

The gameplay is to some extent fun. However, many SHOTS are missing from the game like the hook, pull, etc. If the ball is shot, the batsman still tries to play the off-drive or the on-drive. Also, to hit a boundary or a six you have to come to the pitch of the ball and then from there maybe aim in the off-side or on-side or straight down and then maybe you'll get a boundary or a six. The camera changes whenever a shot is played and this gives it a great feel. You can move your batsman up and down the pitch or left and right. There is a batting cone or arrow near the bastman's foot. If X is pressed along with the direction keys at the same time, then the cone moves in a particular direction. The cone indicates the direction in which the batsman is going to hit the ball. To hit a normal shot, press Z when the ball comes or to hit a hard shot, press Z and X together. The running between the wickets is good and the bowling is much better than Brian Lara's Cricket.
